## What is YarnWiz?

YarnWiz is the knitting companion your stash has been waiting for - made by a knitter!
Snap a photo of any yarn label and YarnWiz instantly logs the brand, weight, yardage, and colorway. No manual entry, no guesswork. Build your complete stash library and finally know what you actually have (yes, even that mystery skein from the festival three years ago).
Then let the magic happen. YarnWiz matches your stash to real patterns based on what you own right now. Browse your matches, filter by category, and go straight from "I have yarn" to "I know what to cast on next!"
Features:

Instant label scanning: snap, scan, done
Full stash management with yardage tracking
Pattern matching based on your actual stash

Save patterns from Ravelry to your library or wishlist
Project tracking from cast-on to bind-off

Whether you're a one-project-at-a-time knitter or someone whose stash has its own zip code, YarnWiz helps you spend less time wondering and more time knitting.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.8 — 2026-08-20

What's New
Added a new Shop tab teasing our upcoming yarn marketplace, with a link to learn more and sign up for updates
Added a "Connect Ravelry!" prompt on the Stash and Make tabs that disappears once you've connected your account
Added a one-time popup inviting everyone to join our Discord community
Tidied up the More tab layout so tools and settings are easier to scan

Bug Fixes
Fixed the app freezing for a couple of seconds when opening a pattern's PDF
Fixed the shopping list "Add skeins" button showing a duplicated number

### 1.1.7 — 2026-08-11

What's New
Turn paper patterns into digital ones: scan photos of a paper pattern and we'll turn them into a PDF, with crop, rotate, and multi-page support.
Draw right on your colorwork charts: a new Annotate mode lets you mark up a chart while reading it, with a pen, straight-line tool, eraser, adjustable thickness, pinch-to-zoom, and a magnifying loupe for precise placement.
Track time on every part of a project: add named timers for the gauge swatch, sleeves, body, yoke, and more, then see your total knitting time and average time per section.
Manage multiple row counters per project: add named counters (like "Body" and "Sleeve"), reposition them freely, and link counters together so tapping one moves the others too.
Added a Home Screen widget to add rows and start/stop your pinned project's timer without opening the app.
Added a "Start Project" button right on a yarn's page, so you can jump straight into planning with that yarn already picked.
Planning a project for a baby or child now shows friendly size labels (like "Size 6" or "18–24 months") next to the numbers, plus a recommended gauge hint when the pattern has one.
Ravelry pattern search now has a full-width button on the Patterns tab, so it's easier to find.
Ravelry sync conflicts now offer an "apply to all" option, so you're not stuck resolving the same kind of conflict one yarn at a time.
Adding a Ravelry pattern to your wishlist no longer automatically adds it to your Ravelry queue — you'll be asked first.
Added a Discord link so you can join the YarnWiz community and connect with other knitters.
Improved yarn weight detection when scanning a label: if the weight isn't printed directly, we'll now check the gauge swatch as a backup.

Bug Fixes
Fixed wishlisted patterns incorrectly showing as already owned when browsing Ravelry.
Fixed a Ravelry pattern's Save/Wishlist buttons not remembering they were already saved when reopening its detail page.
Fixed project and stash photos silently failing to upload to Ravelry, and projects pushed to Ravelry losing their linked pattern.
Fixed the pattern and yarn photo carousels jumping back to the first photo while swiping through.
Fixed relevant project photos from other Ravelry members not showing up on a pattern's page.
Fixed scan failures showing a blank "add yarn" form instead of a clear error message.
Fixed a crash that could happen when syncing a purchased pattern that appeared both on its own and inside a bundle.
Fixed a rare crash when loading more comments on a Ravelry pattern.
Fixed a rare crash from rapidly tapping a project's row or stitch counter many times in a row.
Fixed the In-Store Advisor showing no matches when you picked "Not sure yet."
Fixed blurry photos when tapping a match in the In-Store Advisor.
Fixed the sheep icon on the Stash tab sitting slightly crooked.
Fixed the "still matching…" indicator sometimes getting stuck on screen.

### 1.1.6 — 2026-08-04

New Features
Redesigned the Matches tab into a single ranked list, plus a new "Use up my yarn" mode that suggests patterns for a specific skein (with real yarn photos and multi-skein selection)
Added sort and filter controls to Matches, including "Exact weight only," "Single-color only," and quick "Yarn I own" / "Ready to knit" toggles
Redesigned the match detail view with a clearer breakdown of why a pattern is or isn't ready to knit
Redesigned the In-Store Yarn Advisor with two search modes ("I know what I want" vs. "Not sure yet"), a live garment-type picker, inline measurement prompts, and a one-off size override that won't overwrite your saved measurements
Added Prym to the needle brand picker, with ready-made sets across their bamboo, ergonomic, aluminium, and beechwood lines
Added a guided walkthrough introducing the redesigned In-Store Advisor the next time you open the app

App Improvements
Sizing a baby or kids pattern to a different size now uses real age sizes (6m, 12m, 2T, etc.) instead of a bust/chest measurement
Tapping into a pattern match now shows all of its Ravelry photos, not just one
In-Store Advisor now shows how many skeins to buy for your pattern instead of asking upfront, plus a colors-needed badge for colorwork patterns, and only charges a use for yarn you actually scan
Added rotate buttons to the pattern PDF viewer and colorwork chart crop screen so sideways pages and photos display correctly
Matches filters are now easier-to-use dropdowns instead of a scrolling row

Bug Fixes
Fixed Ravelry stash sync showing yarn as fully available when it had actually been used up or manually adjusted on Ravelry; it now asks which quantity is correct when they disagree
Fixed pants, shorts, and skirt patterns being sized off your bust measurement instead of waist/hip
Fixed baby and kids patterns showing up in In-Store Advisor searches filtered to "Adult"
Fixed "Match a Different Size" not actually re-sorting and re-scoring patterns for the size you entered
Fixed the In-Store Advisor's garment-type list missing several Ravelry categories, including pants and shorts
Fixed scanning a yarn label from In-Store Advisor dropping you into the full add-to-stash screen instead of the Advisor itself
Fixed the pattern viewer snapping back to its original position after moving around a zoomed-in pattern
Clearer error messages when a purchase or scan fails, instead of confusing technical text or a blank screen
Failed scans no longer use up a scan credit
Fixed buttons and matches being hidden behind banners or the tab bar

### 1.1.5 — 2026-07-22

Bug fixes!

### 1.1.4 — 2026-07-21

Features
Added badges for milestones like scanning your first yarn, casting on a project, finishing a project, and more, with a full-screen celebration when you earn one
Added a Badges section under your profile in More so you can see which ones you've earned

We also fixed a few bugs to make the app smoother and faster!
