That is so great to have. This would be a 5 star review except for that thumbnails don’t load! I just see a gray box for each video. That’s a huge flaw, as it makes it hard to choose what videos to watch. I tried switching the thumbnail quality option in the settings, but that didn’t fix it. I hope the developers can fix this. Another minor critique is that the search function is hidden in the “more” tab. Within an hour of installing the app, I decided I didn’t actually need it, so I held down on the app button (on my home screen] and in the window I saw something incredibly disturbing: Several files were listed from just moments ago — multiple screen recordings, multiple image files. I clicked on one and it had all my messages up!! Without wasting time reviewing anything else it took, I deleted it, disconnected from the internet, and went to settings to turn on Lockdown Mode & shut the device off. What happened to not collecting data? I actually read privacy policies before I download apps, so I trusted what this developer wrote and what I assumed Apple verified to be safe. BEWARE. ### 1/5 — Too many problems *2025-09-22, version 1.5.1* Playback takes ages to begin. Trying to scrub through a video will stall the playback. Turning the phone sideways won’t automatically switch video to fullscreen; you first have to open the settings panel and close it then it detects the orientation change. In short, you’re better off putting a shortcut to your Piped Instance on your homescreen. M4 has enough power to play anything. On Apple TV is a joke losing frame like mad it more of a slideshow . Currently this app becomes unusable for me. ### 1/5 — Buggy application with non-responsive devs *2024-02-15* This app, in its current state, is just straight bad. At least two of the three issues I’m having have been reported, months ago, with absolutely no response from devs. 1 - Seek feature completely broken until video has sufficient buffer. 2 - Audio at the end of some videos gets completely cut out. 3- App crashes when playing videos in the background with the lock screen on. Until these issues are addressed, this app is absolutely unusable. It gives us ad-free YouTube while not supporting greedy companies like Google. I’d love to see the DeArrow extension be supported if possible. For anyone having issues seeing player controls in the background (I did for a while, but there’s a fix): go to settings -> controls -> toggle off “Use system controls with AVPlayer” ### 5/5 — iOS version of Piped *2024-01-06* Unlike Piped, Yattee doesn't work OOTB and requires some configuration. However, the configuration is simple and quick; I got Yattee up and running in less than 5 minutes. Love the UI and all the ways it can be tweaked in the settings. Videos are playing with minimal buffering at 720p but might have more with 1080p. I'm not picky; I just want to watch videos in peace. ### 5/5 — Overall very great, but one thing has changed. *2023-12-01* Over time, the user interface has been improved and options for multiple instances, playing and logging in through separate instances, and the queueing is great. One thing, since late iOS 16 has changed. Only occasionally, now, play controls show up in the Lock Screen, otherwise it’s just blank, with no option to seek, play or pause without having to go into the app. Resolving this would be great.
