### 4/5 — Migraine Inducer

*2025-02-02, version 1.4*

I’m not one to usually get motion sick playing games, but the constant wavering and flickering light had me taking breaks. The companion journal also doesn’t work on my iPad (it won’t scroll or allow me to enter a code). Other than that the artwork and atmosphere is good, and puzzles are fun enough.

### 4/5 — Nice and creepy

*2023-12-07, version 1.4*

So I enjoyed this game a lot, there’s not a lot of dark atmospheric phone games and it delivered in that sense. If I had a criticism it would probably be that it was pretty short/not a whole lot of play time. I spent most of my time with this game stuck on figuring out puzzles, when I did get what I was supposed to do they were really quick and easy to complete, and there weren’t that many.

I really enjoyed the story, and how it came full circle, but there’s a pretty big trigger warning needed here for anyone who struggles with su*c*dal ideation.

### 3/5 — Confusing for the sake of it

*2023-10-07, version 1.4*

C’mon. This game is a back-and-forth nightmare with frustrating controls. It got three for being an interesting story but it boils down to retreading territory over and over again in a way that puts JRPGs to shame.

### 3/5 — No sound

*2022-01-03, version 1.4*

Love this game but it won’t play sound on my phone at all. Please patch it!

### 3/5 — Sound and menu issues

*2021-12-28, version 1.4*

I cannot hear the sound nor can I find the menu as in it’s just the game, my volume buttons on high but no sound?!
I loved this game in the past but just paid for it and without the sound it’s not a great experience. Any help and advice appreciated !!

### 3/5 — more context please

*2020-12-08, version 1.4*

kind of disappointed since the game is too short. why do i have to download year walk companion when developers can put it in the game itself to make the story flows. also should add more context

### 3/5 — Sound not working on iPhone SE

*2020-10-14, version 1.4*

Interesting game and gorgeous aesthetic, but it’s not working right.

### 3/5 — 👍

*2020-06-22, version 1.4*

Amazing! The combination of horror and mystery made the game all the better, and the puzzles were enjoyable, to say the least. I WOULD give this game a 5/5 star. The only problem I have... Is the length. The length of the game is definitely NOT worth $4. Other then that, good job!

### 2/5 — Nah

*2020-06-01, version 1.4*

You can pass on this one. Too demonic.

Device 6 is so much better

### 5/5 — Imperdible!

*2020-05-02, version 1.4*

### 5/5 — I Have Returned

*2020-04-19, version 1.4*

I played this game years ago when it was first released, and just the other day thought about it though I couldn’t remember what it was called! I searched through hundreds of my old apps that I had downloaded on the past and FINALLY found it. I vaguely remembered the game and actually couldn’t remember how to solve any if the puzzles at all, which was a good thing in that it allowed me to play through the game again while having to really think! I loved it just as much the second time I played through, and I’m excited to read through the companion app. Congratulations on this game, I thoroughly loved it (again).

### 5/5 — Instant Favorite—”Year Walk” is Fantastic.

*2020-03-16, version 1.4*

This is a stylistic, smart, beautifully designed horror game that delves deep into Swedish mythology. My only nitpick is that the game is too short, thus when you’ve gotten the hang of the puzzles and chosen to “walk again,” “Year Walk” is easy to solve a second time and, thus, the gameplay is quicker. But these are probably the best $4 I’ve spent in the App Store. This game deserves a larger following and all the purchases it can. Its premise is original, the controls are smooth, the illustrations stunning, and the myths behind it are intriguing. This is among my favorite games, and my #1 iOs horror game hands down.

### 5/5 — Year Walk is a polished masterclass in mobile gaming

*2020-03-15, version 1.4*

This game was made with a spirit that at the time of it's publishing many games were lacking in the appstore. It was crafted beautifully, with a sense of shapes and mood and atmosphere that could be hard to find in mobile gaming all those years ago, and what's greater is the sense that the people who developed this had the passion and ingenuity to make this experience a reality. Wonderful game, definite recommend 👍

### 2/5 — So short

*2020-03-08, version 1.4*

I give this 2 stars! I’m not very good at puzzle games, and yet, this game was over and done with in one after dinner sitting. There are maybe 4 puzzles to solve. Why would they charge for such a short game?

### 3/5 — Good but too short and difficult

*2020-02-15, version 1.4*

The game a really good and thought out. I loved the style and music. I think it was so cool to incorperate folklore into this game and I wish there were more games like this but there were a few issues.

The game was really short and expensive. I’d understand the price if the game was longer but it’s only a hour long, that is if you don’t get too confused. And I wish that you could experience it for a little bit longer.

The game was also VERY confusing and difficult. I was very stuck on the part when you follow the Huldra into the tree and ended up deleting the game 3-4 times to get a fresh start and make sure I didn’t miss anything. I was also stuck on the part where you give the mylings to the kelpie (brook’s horse) and ended up spending about an hour trying to get the mylings, and 2 days trying to get out of the tree thing.

Although the game was great, it would’ve been better if it was longer, less expensive, or less difficult.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Gosh I wish

*2025-06-05, version 1.4*

I could respond to other reviews… make it somewhat easy to get in the game. So far, the only thing cool is the sound of footsteps in the snow… OK NOW I REALIZE AFTER WATCHING THE FIRST FEW SECONDS OF THE WALKTHROUGH, THIS GAME DOES NOT WORK FOR IPHONES! Now I have to try and get my money back. Too bad.

### 1/5 — Not working

*2024-06-23, version 1.4*

No sound. It’s just an image of a house with no controls on screen.

### 1/5 — Not for me, I guess?

*2023-10-27, version 1.4*

The reviews of this game are stellar but I really couldn’t get into it. It was generally bewildering and pretty boring. I looked up a walkthrough to get started because I just had no idea what to do, and then I had to constantly refer to the map on a separate device. I peeked ahead in the walkthrough and it seemed like just more of the same. After about half an hour I decided I just wasn’t having fun and closed the app.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2021-04-24*

Too many bugs in new version. Just lost my money

### 1/5 — No volume

*2021-02-13, version 1.4*

Volume disappeared and can’t fix it. Tried reinstalling. iPhone 11 with latest iOS and everything else on my phone works perfect. Looks nice too bad I can’t finish it.

### 1/5 — So boring :(

*2019-08-22*

I’m so sorry but this is SO boring and no storyline or even the possibility to click on pause. God I just wish that there was a nice mystery solving game 😩

### 1/5 — can’t recommend

*2019-05-16, version 1.4*

there’s a difference between being challenging yet engaging and rewarding and being completely obtuse and impenetrable. year walk’s puzzles are the latter. there’s also a difference between creating a creepy, haunting atmosphere and having jumpscares every time the player makes any progress. again, year walk is the latter. it would be cynical to say the obnoxious difficulty is to stretch the game’s length out to justify asking for 4 dollars, but unfortunately that seems to be pretty accurate. the companion is a nice idea but the lore it provides is pretty categorically not helpful. the art and sound design are nice. if you want good puzzles and/or creepy atmosphere i’d recommend something out of the cube escape series (many of which are FREE) or even this same company’s title DEVICE 6, which is superb. year walk, however, is just too unintuitive and poorly executed to recommend.

### 1/5 — Fake Rezensionen?

*2019-01-19*

Finger weg!

### 1/5 — Incomplete game. No longer works.

*2018-12-08, version 1.4*

Horrible. Do not waste your money. Wandering aimlessly for crap I see on YT walkthroughs that aren’t on the game I paid too much money for. Very much a ripoff despite any backing by Apple. Huge disappointment since years ago, Device6 was so good. Refund my money.

### 1/5 — No Instructions

*2018-12-03, version 1.4*

The game came with no instructions and I had no idea how to proceed. There was no way to get any hints either.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

*2024-11-05*

### 5/5 — Ohh tengo mucho que decir.

### 5/5 — Wow

*2023-12-20, version 1.4*

I never leave reviews on games. Because I never care much to.

But I can genuinely say this game has impacted me so much since I’d first gotten it in 2018. It’s impacted so much of my art and I will always keep coming back to it.

Thank you for making this game.

### 5/5 — My personal favourite indie game

*2022-03-30, version 1.4*

Beautiful artwork, mysteriously atmospheric, fascinating story and creepy aesthetic

### 5/5 — Love the art x

*2021-07-05, version 1.4*

This is honestly such a lovely game I just wish it wasn’t so short x
It’s truly one of my favourite games :3 Thankyou

### 5/5 — Yes

*2021-06-20, version 1.4*

Probably one of the most creative, engaging games I’ve played. And I keep replaying it, just for the thrill.
It’s weird, creepy and everything you’d want in a game

### 5/5 — The legend that is SIMOGO

*2021-03-27, version 1.4*

Another astounding game from these developers, I adored Device 6 one of the best games ever made and this is right up there with it, it’s creepy with brilliant atmosphere and cracking puzzles, it does take a brain cell or 2 so unfortunately those without have dragged the rating down, I bought the sailors dream after this and what a beautiful experience that was......SIMOGO you truly have my heart 💖.

Edit: so 8 years or so on and I have replayed this incredible game this time with the companion guide to open the box, wow how did I miss the ending the first time, breathtaking, loved reading the diary, this really is a masterpiece of storytelling and has stood the test of time only get better with improved visuals, I’m so glad it’s been kept updated. I love you Simogo.

### 5/5 — Amazing and touching

*2020-06-20, version 1.4*

Make sure you get to the true ending

### 5/5 — 3rd replay

*2020-06-06, version 1.4*

This game consoles me whenever I play it.
