I’ve had the app for the best part of 8 years or so and the most recent UI and UX update is torture. Progress bars gone. You can no longer see how much you’ve added to a category this month without clicking into it. What on earth? Reddit says it’s some A/B testing nonsense. Well I’m in the B for Bad. Change it back. Please. Or at least give the option to. The app was so good I’d literally pay extra to go back to the previous iteration. That’s how bad the new update is. Which is a shame, the the app and concept itself was wonderful. ### 2/5 — Frustrating update *2026-08-20, version 26.30* New update is really frustrating. I can no longer see what I’ve spent in each category without additional work that’s not user friendly. It’s frustrating to see $0 in my plan or available to spend, but I want to see what my spend has been without having to act like I’m assigning funds. This feature being removed will likely make me look for a new product. ### 2/5 — Good UI design, poor back end *2026-08-19, version 26.30* Makes the envelope method easy and the integration with account balances is good - when it actually works. Half of the accounts refuse to import transactions despite multiple rounds of re-syncing, removing and reconnecting, and help desk ticket requests across over a year. Not sure if I'll continue using YNAB because this has been so frustrating and severely degrades the utility of the service. For almost $100/yr I expected a more useable app. ### 3/5 — Learning curve *2026-08-17, version 26.30* It’s good to keep track of basic in the envelope style, but I do feel as though some numbers don’t line up quite often and I don’t know why. I’ve had the app for over a year and am just now thinking I might try another. This has been good, just had a lot of reconciliations that were very different, sometimes a difference of $1,000. That’s a lot of money to have not calculating correctly. I’m sure this is a user error. I use this app for how friendly the user interface was. You seriously need to fire whoever thought the most recent change was a good idea. The app is now ugly and just as boring as every other budgeting all out there. It’s time to start looking for a different system. ### 2/5 — Ehhh it’s alright *2026-08-14, version 26.30* it has potential but unfortunately it would not connect with our bank correctly and our balance never matched what was actually in our bank account. Might be a bank connection issue or the app I am not sure. But it was very frustrating going into the app all the time and trying to fix everything. The last few major updates have made significant changes to the UX. The most recent one has hidden the assigned column and added a little money spent summary to each bucket row. The summaries add clutter and potential for confusion between the bucket’s active and beginning balances. I found the assigned column to be a core information component while reviewing my plan. It reappears if you tap on a row, but there is no option to have it always be shown. Instead the plan is cluttered with folder icons that fill up to green. It’s visual noise that greatly reduces readability. It’s a budgeting app and YNAB continues to find ways to hide the numbers. I feel like I’m being forced out as a user because clean informative presentation has been traded for scrapbook styled presentation. ### 1/5 — Every update makes it worse. *2026-08-15, version 26.30* 4 years ago this was hands down the best budgeting app. Every few months they now update the app and EVERY single update makes the app worse. The latest update took away the classic clean look of YNAB and made it look like it was created by a middle schooler on MS-DOS in 1989. ### 1/5 — Woke *2026-08-14, version 26.30* This app used to be about money. They added an LGBT etc angle. Not what I’m paying for. The circles are so much more difficult to read and make me want to cancel my subscription. I find it hard to believe anyone asked for this feature - please stop making arbitrary UI updates that don’t actually fix anything. ### 1/5 — Latest update removed the most useful feature *2026-08-14, version 26.30* The progress bars which show at a glance where you are against plan have been removed. This was the main reason for me to use this instead of something like monzo’s inbuilt budgeting feature. Not sure why they would remove Themis ### 1/5 — WHY??? *2026-08-14, version 26.30* I have used this app for several years and today it was updated to the most recent version. This updated app is literally unusable. I can’t see any of my progress bars, I have to click multiple times and things to see spending history, and the list goes on… WHY YNAB?!!! I am considering canceling my subscription if this current version is here to stay because it’s basically useless. ### 1/5 — Constant Useless and Confusing Updates Recently *2026-08-14, version 26.30* Have been a used for years. Recent updates bury my budgeting info multiple clicks deep so I can no longer see the useful info (how much money I am aiming for, nave, and need) without multiple clicks. Was all set to get an account for my child before college. Now I am looking to see when my current subscription expires so I can be sure it doesn’t auto renew. Instead of improving the core budgeting experience, the team keeps making changes that add more clicks, more friction, and more confusion. It feels like change for the sake of change, not because users asked for it. What many longtime users want is simple: go back to the basics. Make budgeting fast and intuitive again. Then focus on meaningful additions like investment tracking and better net worth reporting. I’ve been a subscriber for five years because YNAB’s budgeting philosophy is excellent. Unfortunately, the app has steadily become more frustrating to use, and it feels like customer feedback is being ignored. Rather than making my financial life easier, I’m spending more time navigating the interface. After 1 year of daily use and mastery, I’ve increased my savings from 10K to 22K (increase would be only maybe to 18K without job promotion/income increase).
