## What is yodaka?

A reader for the classics of Japanese and world literature, drawn from Aozora Bunko and Project Gutenberg. Over 50,000 works in all.

The idea behind yodaka is simple: turn your daily scrolling into an encounter with a great book.

DISCOVER
A feed of opening passages. Features on authors on the anniversaries of their deaths. Curated reading lists, published regularly. Even if you don't know where to start, you will find something.

LAYOUT & TYPE
Three ways to read, in vertical or horizontal writing.
- Passage: one passage per screen. Swipe for the next. Read slowly, one sentence at a time.
- Page: turn one page at a time. On iPad, a two-page spread.
- Scroll: move freely through the text.

MARKERS, NOTES, DICTIONARY
Highlight what you want to keep. Write down what you think. Your highlights and notes collect on your shelf, ready to read back later.

The dictionary is a tap away, which helps with the older works. English works are supported too, so the app works for language study. If you use the Dictionaries app by Monokakido, yodaka can hand off to it.

READABILITY
Text size, line height and letter spacing are all adjustable, so you can tune the page until it reads easily for you. The reading ruler helps if you lose your place or your eyes slide off the line.

YODAKA PREMIUM
Every work is free to read. Premium adds iCloud sync, the reading record, widgets, 12 themes, 10 fonts, 12 highlight colors and 8 app icons.

A share of Premium revenue, after costs, is donated to Aozora Bunko (Fund for the Future of Books), to dyslexia support, and to barrier-free reading support.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.0.2 — 2026-09-21

The paged reader has been rebuilt. Works reopen faster, and ruby spacing and font choices now render correctly.

• Paged mode shows your position ("3 of 30") below the scrollbar
• Pages break at reading-ruler line boundaries
• With the reading ruler on, tapping the text moves to the next line
• Fixed a scrubber that stopped short of the ends in verse mode, and lagged in long works
• Smoother scrolling in the library
• Fixed a case where a dictionary would not download for the word list
• Revised wording in the display settings

### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-10

Fixed a bug where a page could start with a blank line when page breaks were set to punctuation.
Favorites, highlights and notes for the work you are reading can now be opened from the reader.

### 1.0 — 2026-09-10
