### 3/5 — Decent. Good price, but very limited

*2026-08-20*

This is an EPUB first app. PDFs are so limited that they have practically 0 features. Not even basic things like text selection or search. I only read books and never annotate so this isn’t a major issue, but to not be able to search words or select text is very limiting. Despite this limited functionality with PDFs I still use it because it’s PDF function is great even with large textbooks on an old device such as mine, while many others lag while pinching an zooming. Sync is only available via iCloud and Dropbox and no other services which I find further limiting. The price is more than fair. My main issue is that it crashes on my iPad every time when I open it as it’s trying to sync. Same goes for my phone so now I am unable to even open the app. Until this major bug is fixed, I have no choice but to go back to Apple Books

### 4/5 — The best READER

*2026-08-16*

It has dark mode. Works flawlessly. Would be 5 star if they add the ability to follow links in epub files.

### 2/5 — Loses formatting

*2026-06-22, version 3.17.0*

Sadly this app ignores all original formatting by the book designer, so you see plain-vanilla text, not what was the intended experience. For book lovers, it’s an ugly experience. Deleted it.

### 3/5 — Really good, just too annoying

*2026-06-20, version 3.17.0*

The app TOTALLY works. For sure, I’ve got books in here and I’m reading them!

But sometimes a page renders half off-screen. And sometimes, selecting text causes the page to turn. And the constant notifications asking “Have you enabled the widget?” (no, because I don’t want to) or “Did you know you can add tags?” (no, and I don’t care) are absolutely grating.

I’m so sad no-one writes apps that just leave you alone any more.

### 2/5 — Widgets constantly crashing on macOS

*2026-06-18, version 3.17.0*

After every system reboot as well as randomly, macOS crash catcher reports the widgets for Yomu have crashed. There doesn’t seem to be any user fix or workaround for this frustratingly disruptive issue. Attempts to edit any desktop widgets at all will crash Yomu if it’s running. Makes it rather difficult to evaluate the app on the whole, which is a shame because it looked quite promising.

### 5/5 — Love it — one small request

*2026-06-10, version 3.16.1*

Genuinely one of the best independent readers out there — clean, fast, and a pleasure to use daily. My one wish: let us customize the accent color. The current yellow-green is nice, but being able to match it to my own theme like with the page customizability (or just something easier on the eyes at night) would make the app feel truly personal. Even a small set of preset colors would be amazing. Keep up the great work!

### 5/5 — Best I have found

*2026-06-02*

I’ve tried a few book readers for iPad, and this is the best one that I have found

### 5/5 — Super decent simple organized e-book reader

*2026-05-25, version 3.16.1*

Love that I can sync between my laptop and phone. Only issue I have is that I often want to highlight sentences that cross to the next page on my phone and it doesn’t allow me to (or I haven’t figured out how to) That’s a very minor issue though. Love everything else and appreciate it so much I was just in the app and felt so thankful for it I wanted to review it to spread the love ❤️

### 5/5 — Stellar

*2026-05-24, version 3.16.1*

Best app ever

### 5/5 — Simplistic and Perfect

*2026-05-22, version 3.16.1*

I shied away from another app due to constant redownloading issues while having a large library and reading multiple epubs at once. I came upon this app and there were so many green flags for purchasing the pro version. I love the comfortability of customizing the reader to what I like to be presented and without being overwhelmed by so many different options. I’m able to sort multiple epubs into folders, and add tags as well with a general count which was an absolute necessity for me.

### 5/5 — Excellent, just one issue

*2026-05-18, version 3.16.1*

I think this is the best book organizer available for ios. It's simple to set up and use, the interface is simple and clean, the book reader works well.

There is just one issue for me. Many pdfs don't allow for note taking, and that's fine. That's not unique to Yomu. But I wish that I could manually take notes connected to bookmarks for pdfs. I don't need the ability to highlight text, just the ability to write a note. You can get around this by writing notes in the book overview section, but I just like to consistently put my notes in the same place if I can.

### 5/5 — The best you’ll find

*2026-05-17*

I have spent a lot of time testing out different ebook readers. Throughout this time, I have tried maybe over 30+ apps. After switching back-and-forth through these various apps, Yomu is the app that I kept returning to. This app has allowed me to use a lot of features that I love, not to mention it is still being updated. One thing I also like is that there is no subscription model for this app, instead there is a one time fee that is very inexpensive. The pro version of Yomu allows me to have as many books as I would like, not to mention separate them into personalized folders. I have an instance of Kavita running on one of my personal NAS. The OPDS support is amazing in Yomu as it only takes a few seconds for all of my books to be downloaded. I wasn’t the biggest on reading just because I don’t like the physical feel of paper anymore, however, Yomu has assisted me and reading more books than I thought possible at this phase in my life. If you don’t buy the pro version of the app, it still does not hinder your use of the app itself. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to increase their ability to read books on an iOS device. I would also strongly recommend the pro version since your books are saved to the cloud with seamless syncing. Not sure if pro is needed for that, however, it is certainly worth it as this will help the developers continue to improve upon this wonderful app. Just like Panels is the best comic reader I’ve ever used on an iOS device Yomu is hands-down the best book reader on an iOS device.

### 5/5 — Grade A, A1

*2026-05-14, version 3.16.1*

I feel lucky to have discovered Yomu many years ago. It’s one of only a few app purchases I didn’t feel any regret after buying and I’ve never had to look for an alternative reader since.

### 5/5 — Оличное приложение

*2026-05-12, version 3.16.1*

### 4/5 — Unlimited web browsing hampers this otherwise great reader app

*2026-05-06, version 3.16.1*

The developer needs to remove web access from the app. This app has the lowest age rating, which presumably makes it a good reader for kids books. But, the built in browser offers unfiltered web access on otherwise locked down iOS devices.

### 4/5 — Awesome ebook reader

*2026-04-14, version 3.16.0*

This is a very well designed e-book reader. I only wish it would automatically sync from a local folder or an OPDS server. Needing to import the apps specific local folder is a bit of a drag. Highly recommend the pro (karma) upgrade though.

### 4/5 — So close to perfection

*2026-04-10, version 3.16.0*

2026 update: still really like this app. I always come back to is as my default ereader.

2 things keeping it from being a perfect 5 stars:
A page curl animation (yeah it’s a small thing but I really miss it from other readers

And bookmark from main reading screen on phone like iPad has. I’d rather be giving the option to move the 3 dots and then search to another menu and just putting bookmark there where 3 dots are.

### 4/5 — Good

*2026-04-08, version 3.13.1*

Yomu, Eboox, and Readest seem like the best free alternatives to Apple Books (which is obnoxiously pushy with pushing the store on you, and breaks your iCloud storage space etc, and so on).

Personally I think Readest is the most pleasant, but Eboox and Yomu are good.

Yomu charges a reasonable fee (one time purchase, not greedy leech subscription!) to do iCloud storage/syncing beyond the the free version of 10 book limit(?). Readest doesn’t have any limit except by storage space. So although Yomu’s pricing is respectable and non-predatory, the feature lock-out is not likeable in my opinion.

Anyway it’s fine.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No google drive inte

*2026-08-05*

While purchasing it mentioned google drive but i see only dropbox

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. You can access your books on Google Drive via the Apple Files app integration. Additional information is available in the FAQ:

### 1/5 — Платная

*2026-04-09*

### 1/5 — Telemetry Hog

*2026-03-31, version 3.16.0*

Really. What’s wrong with this app and telemetry and crashes. The widget in the Mac is horrible. Not cool mr. Developer.

### 1/5 — File format issues

*2026-03-20, version 3.16.0*

I paid for the pro version, which is supposed to work with all formats. Nothing like this fb2 is not compatible.

### 1/5 — Good job!

*2026-02-28, version 3.16.0*

You tricked me into downloading a useless app, I’m sure the environmental damage from you tricking me into downloading an app is well worth the data you gathered to sell to other companies that I’m not stupid enough to pay a subscription to read my own books nor pay to redownload books that I already own.

### 1/5 — Weg

*2026-02-27, version 3.16.0*

Nicht nützlich da man nichts markieren kann obwohl es PDF ist und ohne Abo kann man nur 10 Bücher in der Gallerie haben.

### 1/5 — kindle

*2026-01-24, version 3.15.0*

How to use the Kindle app with this

### 1/5 — Lacking features

*2025-09-28, version 3.14.0*

Can’t even zoom the doc on a Mac. Missing many features of other ebook readers. You need to really improve on this or take it down from the App Store please. Also it looks like the developer artificially inflated his ratings. All of a sudden the number of reviews jumped all at the same time and they were all 5 stars. Buyer beware.

### 1/5 — Mentirososo

*2025-09-26, version 3.14.0*

No mientan, no se puede marcar nada, ni agrandar el texto, muy pocas opciones para comodidad

### 1/5 — Could. Ot make the font bigger.

*2025-09-01, version 3.13.1*

Changing the font size just made the lines further apart, it didn’t make the letters larger. Absolutely could not read the books I tried.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Simply Brilliant

*2026-08-25*

Plenty of features for the money and simply a very good reader with a nice UI. Dead easy to add files.

### 5/5 — Free reader that works!

*2026-08-16, version 3.18.0*

Ebook app that supports popular book text format without the price tag for admission. Simple enough to use as it should be. Some may have fancy page turning animation and some cool features but do we really need most of those features?

### 5/5 — Love it — Incredible Developer

*2026-08-14, version 3.18.0*

Still one of the best readers out there, clean, fast, and a pleasure to use daily. I left a review a while back asking for customizable accent colors, and the developer actually added blue and pink options in a recent update. It’s rare to see a developer this responsive, and it makes the app feel truly personal now. Thank you for listening and keep up the great work!

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2026-08-10*

This is the first e-reader app for my iPad that actually formats books correctly. It is such a joy to read with proper margins, indentations, and subheadings. It’s so easy to use, notes and highlighting work perfectly, and there’s no ads. Highly recommend!!

### 5/5 — Excellent epub reader

*2026-08-01, version 3.17.0*

The app works well. I have downloaded mange epubs and they flow well in the app. Changing the layout (almost) always works. It spreads across devices seamlessly.

### 5/5 — Great!

*2026-07-18, version 3.17.0*

Excellent little e-book reader. My one wish is that you could save multiple named preference setups (including font theme etc.), instead of just the one default you can write.

Similar how you can do this with the colors.

### 5/5 — Checks off what I’m looking for

*2026-07-16, version 3.17.0*

My phone setting ‘read what’s on screen’ will continue the book until I pause. where other E readers I’d have to initiate it every page. Also I can download/delete books locally. No ads, affordable.

### 5/5 — Excellent book reading app with more features than the Apple Books app

*2026-07-10*

Edit: a cool feature idea is when highlighting something is to allow you to delete parts of the highlight. Like when you quote parts of a text and it’s denoted by three dots…then picks up to the relevant spot.

The new annotations widget is great! Exactly what I’ve been after to re-encounter my annotations I’ve made in the past. A suggestion to improve the widgets in a future release. Allow customisation of how much time each quote is present for before changing e.g. 5, 10,15, 60 minutes. That and maybe interactive gesture allowing you to move through multiple annotationsby tapping on the right side to progress through a carousel.

### 5/5 — UR MOTHER

*2026-07-08, version 3.17.0*

GOOD BUT NOT AS GOOD AS UR MUM

### 5/5 — .

*2026-06-21*

Yomu Reader is clean and pleasant to use. However, when reading Korean EPUB books, the Korean text only appears in a sans-serif/Gothic style, which feels less natural for long-form reading. Please consider adding Korean serif font support, such as a Korean Myeongjo or Buri-style font. It would make the reading experience much better for Korean users.
