It was so wonderful to use the bikes for short periods of time and a highlight for our family trip. However every time we attempted to use a bike it was never easy due to the app. It actually takes so long to download the app and use the app many give up. Also once your finish your ride the app requires you to stop your ride end it is supposed to automatically lock the bike. The problem is 1) it’s difficult to stop your ride on the app 2) your Internet service is spotty 3) one time my phone died so I was unable to. Obviously this happens to most riders because every time we attempted to unlock that bike and begin a ride we would receive a message that said the bike is still in use. This happened to almost everyone when we walked by the bike rentals. In fact many times we were considered the “experts” because we had finally figured it out and were trying to help everyone else. There is seldom anyone on duty to help with the program. My advice, be patient and download the app when you have service and then familiarize yourself with it so you can use one of the bike shares. Attempting for a week, but can’t get license pics to save and entering license ID is only showing numbers and no letters. With strong WiFi at home and this isn’t working, can’t imagine it will work in the valley with spotty coverage. Great concept though, seems to be poor execution. ### 1/5 — Super buggy *2020-08-11, version 1.0.4* The bike unlocked but was beeping the entire time. Also apparently you can’t park in curry village which is the busiest place in the Valley, what’s up with that? ### 1/5 — Couldn’t get it to work *2019-12-13, version 1.0.3* Spent 30 minutes trying to unlock a bike. No luck. No one at Camp 4 had answers. No one answering at the customer service number. What a waste of time. ### 1/5 — Less than 10% of the bikes work! *2019-11-05, version 1.0.3* Of the 15 bikes at camp 4 we only could get one to work, this is an extremely nice service but would be nice to actually use it, the app is also very glitchy ### 1/5 — Don't waste your time with v1.0.2 *2019-10-25* The app sent me two activation codes. Only the second was accepted. The app requires me to enter a number drivers license id, but my British license is alphanumeric. When I uploaded a photo of the license, It got to 100% (takes a while in Yosemite!), then started again for no reason. After completing the second upload - no photo is shown still. I tried one more time for good measure - still nothing showing. The map is unusable. I want to be able to find out where the drop off zones are, but it won't let me navigate away from my location. It allows me to move a little, then it zooms me back to my blue dot. It's infuriating. I'm genuinely shocked that something that works so poorly in so many places could be released - and for such fundamental functionality. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Frustrating experience *2024-08-01* The map said I was near 4 different bikes, but I could not actually spot a single one. It appears to me employees of the park are using these and hiding them near dumpsters and such so others can’t find and use them. Employees should have an easy way to get around, but hiding bikes is very much against the spirit of this program. Really sad to see. ### 1/5 — Great idea, bikes and app unusable *2024-06-14* When they first launched the program it was amazing, however years later the app and the bikes are in bad shape and obviously haven’t maintained as they should (given that YNP attracts so many potential users). The pesas were impossible for us to use and it would’ve been faster to walk, unlocking the bike was a nightmare and locking it took too long and was super buggy. I would not recommend this service to anyone, especially knowing how it used to be much better. ### 1/5 — Ticketmaster level of service *2023-07-05* While the concept is a good one, the lack of cell service in the valley makes the app useless. If by some miracle you do get the app open and somehow get a bike connected you better leave it unlock because once you lock it you might as well forget about it. The YC workers and volunteers don’t even use them. Also the tire treads are nonexistent on the bikes. ### 1/5 — Maybe the buggiest app I’ve used *2021-09-24, version 1.0.7* Scanning usually doesn’t work. Swiping once it’s scanned doesn’t work. What’s the point? ### 1/5 — Don’t waste your time *2021-07-05, version 1.0.5* I was not able to unlock a bike with this app. Even if it had worked, there were only three locations you’re allowed to park. It’s a good idea, bad execution. ### 1/5 — NO NETWORK! *2021-07-05, version 1.0.5* The app has lots of bugs. But that wasn’t the problem. Initially it took us so long to just download/register and start the trip. But when we got to mirror lake, after locking the bikes, we couldn’t pause the trip or end the trip because of lack of network. We tried for at least 15 mins but couldn’t unlock the bikes again. We had to leave two of the bikes. Very bad idea to have an online based bike share when you don’t have internet in most places! The bikes themselves were decent. ### 1/5 — Poorly executed and designed *2021-07-04, version 1.0.5* Great idea, would love to see it work out but the program needs major fixes. Downloading an app in a National Park doesn’t work well either considering I hardly ever had service. Spent too much of my time trying to get a bike to just unlock and watched several others do the same with no success. It would be great if it worked like the Lime Electric scooters do. ### 1/5 — Couldn’t get app to work *2021-06-25, version 1.0.5* Fantastic idea but with little access to data/Wi-Fi in and around the park, how are we supposed to get the app to work? I never got a confirmation code with the flimsy wi-fi at my campground. Bummer, as my family, who is on a tight budget, would’ve loved to take advantage of this. Don’t think we can manage the $30 fees for the other bike rentals. ### 1/5 — Buggiest app I’ve ever used *2020-10-23, version 1.0.4* Downloaded and first problem was it wouldn’t upload pics of my license, even while on good wifi. After arriving at the first location of bikes and Couldn’t unlock a single bike out of 6 bikes there. Finally unlocked a bike from the second location. Arrived at the hike and after completing it the bike was locked out and I was unable to get back to my car. Was stranded over 3 miles from my car without the shuttles running. Tried to find another bike and the app froze and refused to load. Restarted the phone several times with no luck. Great idea but horrible execution. ### 1/5 — great idea, extremely poor execution *2020-10-23, version 1.0.4* Honestly, don’t even bother with this app. Extremely hard to get the bike to unlock (tried maybe 6 bikes before one unlocked) and then it wouldn’t let me “release” my bike when finished because it said I need to return it to a kiosk/worker when there are none, so this app even days later still thinks I have this bike and I probably have a huge charge coming my way. My husband’s bike locked him out at the trailhead well within their range after our hike and stranded him 3 miles from our car. Really really do not recommend. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Excellent way to see the valley *2021-08-22, version 1.0.5* We had limited time to see the valley on our way out of Yosemite and these bikes made it possible for us to see a lot more of it. The attendant helped us unlock the bikes. What a great program. ### 5/5 — Easy to use, free of charge, great accessibility!!! *2021-08-22, version 1.0.5* Pilot program has its bugs, but there was a recent upgrade which fixed a lot of issues. I tried 3 bikes during my trip here and they all worked well! I had no issues with lost network. I was able to explore more parts of the valley than I would if I walked. I was able to pause and unpause my ride where I went. Worked for what I needed it for but don’t know what it would have been like if I had gone far with it and had no cell coverage. I have 4 stars because there could be some improvements but was really happy to have this bike access. ### 3/5 — Love the concept, but need improvements *2021-09-22, version 1.0.7* I love the idea of free bike sharing in Yosemite. Most of the popular Yosemite valley bike path can be covered in 2 hours. I think it would be much better if the conservancy can improve the condition of bikes (There were a few broken bikes when I tried to check one out. And the one I checked out was squeaky during ride). Also the robustness of the return need improvement. I encountered issues at return, which errored out saying I am out of the return area, although according to the map in the App I was right in the middle of the area. I am not sure if it was using the GPS on my phone or the GPS on the bike for location. In my opinion, it should always use the latter because the wireless connection in the park can be sporadic. ### 2/5 — No luck here *2024-06-23* I can say with confidence we had 100% fail rate using the system. There are two of us in Yosemite right now and every time the app says there are two or more bikes we can only find one. Twice the app has said we are literally standing next to a bike and it simply isn’t there. The other problem is that these apps require cellular to work and that is spotty…at best. LTE when it works. We were at Yosemite falls trail head and it said there was one bike so we looked and it wasn’t in the rack. ### 2/5 — No bikeshare *2022-05-25, version 1.0.8* Just got left Yosemite Valley.
