### 2/5 — AI has limitations

*2026-03-17, version 12.07.004*

This app will usually give you three responses every time you respond to it. The first will validate your response, then it will make a comment about how that might be affecting you then the third will ask you what might be a good solution. It is interesting to go through the process once or twice but then it gets old.
Be careful with the purchase because it seems that you can pay monthly , but you pay for the year- it is just breaking the price down for you by month- misdirection if you ask me.

### 2/5 — Bad service

*2026-02-20, version 12.07.003*

I used to love this app, but I lost my premium features for a few months and just went and paid it again and my premium features didn’t come back and I’ve written customer service twice and haven’t gotten a response so I feel like I just spent $70 for nothing

### 2/5 — Too basic

*2025-12-13, version 12.07.003*

Now I'm going to write a true and honest review here. I've just been using this for the last two days on trial, and I'm going to provide honest feedback after using ChatGPT to help me through a particularly painful separation from my wife of 30 years.
The challenge with using ChatGPT for basic therapy and feedback is that it has limited memory in a chat, and if you use it extensively, you will run out of space and need to start a new chat. So I was looking for something with similar capabilities that would remember previous conversations going back a long time.
However, this app is not it. I would say that the LLM being used in this app is very simplistic. It just asks the same questions over and over again, and you end up feeling like you're just talking to yourself. Which might be fine for some people, but I had ChatGPT set so it would challenge me and provide honest feedback. And it was very much like having a true sounding board and therapist once you'd set the parameters and dialled down its agreeableness.
Youper on the other hand is like an LLM that was probably 5% of the capability of ChatGPT, and it's reflected in the conversations that it's trying to push along by asking the same questions over and over again. Providing very little insight, and I think there's got to be better options out there. This is definitely not for me.
I've deleted it, and we'll move on.

### 2/5 — To many questions

*2025-11-06, version 12.07.003*

May work for you , however for me, way too many questions . Every answer given leads to 10 more questions. This is not cognitive therapy, it’s cognitive rip off . Go speak to a real therapist. There is something inherently, intrinsically real about a real human showing empathy, compassion and dedication to helping you . Not AI that just ask thousands of questions , so annoying .

### 2/5 — Irritated instantly

*2025-10-14, version 12.07.003*

When an app starts asking lots of questions before you get into the app you are 100% going to be asked to pay a subscription then offered a discount if you choose not to pay the full price. If you don’t want to pay. Don’t fill in the questions.
Secondly and the most frustrating. Once you start the AI chat bot writes message bubble after message bubble that could have been condensed into one paragraph. Apps still need to follow rules of Grammer .. for a mental health app it irritated me straight away so deleted.
It would tip me over the edge. Just speak to Gemini. It’s a great communicator and listener.

### 1/5 — Alright

*2025-09-24, version 12.07.003*

I am mad and sad before I started this app I’m now angry I tried having a conversation with the therapy bot but it kept making me end it after on sentence and not helping me ITA alright app although I get angry easy and this made me angry

### 2/5 — So many buttons!

*2025-08-22, version 12.07.002*

When setting up the app there are so many screens and buttons to click and if you don’t select a subscription if feels like being on a roundabout of questions! Initial onboarding process could be improved.

### 1/5 — Don’t download unless you plan to subscribe

*2025-08-14, version 12.07.002*

How am I supposed to get any help when the app keeps trying to have me subscribe. That’s not really helping when I’m trying to talk about my feelings. Y’all really think that’s helping better my mood? By shoving a constant subscription down my throat. I downloaded the app because it said it was FREE so why am I being shown 10000 different “subscribe” options. Sad. I truly had hope for a better understanding of my emotions but nah, after the 5th subscribe, no not worth having and not worth wasting my time trying to avoid subscribing to something I haven’t even gotten a chance to fully try. Maybe let the consumer TRY the app for longer than 2 mins to fully grasp what the app IS before trying to make me subscribe.

### 1/5 — Youper alienated its base

*2025-08-03, version 12.07.002*

You chose to lean heavily into AI which is easily accessible and FREE today and you alienated the people who liked and used your app for years by putting things behind a pay wall. I haven’t used the app in 2 years but kept it because of all the insights and past journals but I can’t access any insights without paying. Now your app is barely used and other apps have become what you once were. You didn’t listen to you core base and now the app is becoming obsolete. Good luck to yall. The app is awful now.

### 1/5 — Meh

*2025-07-15, version 12.07.002*

Pretty useless. Has the most generic responses ever. Better talking to ChatGPT for free.

### 1/5 — Meh

*2025-07-02, version 12.07.002*

Their algorithm isn’t very good and does the usual just asking questions for you. Honestly paying for ChatGPT or a competing AI source is better.

### 1/5 — So terrible not worth your time

*2025-06-17, version 12.07.002*

I was stressing more than anything else

### 1/5 — Scam

*2025-06-10, version 12.07.002*

I had a lifetime membership, but because I didn’t log in some random amount of time that I was never told I needed to log on in, they deleted my lifetime account and refused to reinstate it. Don’t subscribe to this app. When I tried to sort it out, they were unhelpful and dismissive. Poor customer service, bait and switch garbage.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your time if you’re over 50

*2025-06-05, version 12.07.002*

All AI help is geared towards young adults. The “advice “ is beyond inapplicable at 50+. I won’t get into specifics. Just don’t ask about serious issues, because you’ll be frustrated and seriously disappointed. Added aggravation for when the bot clearly can’t handle your questions and it responds that “you need to recharge and take a break to regroup “ or some other nonsense.

### 1/5 — Guided meditations

*2025-05-29, version 12.07.002*

Bring back guided meditations that was the most helpful part of this app ❤️

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — They get your email before they tell you it’s a paid subscription

*2026-02-17, version 12.07.003*

I despise apps that advertise to be free, get your email address, and then show you your payment options on the very next screen! It’s ridiculous. If it’s a paid app, just tell me right upfront and let me make a decision about whether or not I’m going to buy the app.

### 1/5 — Generic AI

*2026-02-12, version 12.07.003*

Seems to repeat the same generic scripts. I need a very intelligent ai to understand my trauma, and I can get that better from free ai websites/apps. There is not really any insight or comprehension with this ai. I want AI that can actually respond to the severity of my trauma. Though I also only get one message per conversation because I don’t trust “free trials” and am not going to sign up for one. Especially when many of the reviewers say it charges you instantly. So who knows if it’s actually helpful.

### 1/5 — Struggling and in crisis? Gotta pay first

*2025-12-21, version 12.07.003*

I am in a state of mental crisis. Anything would help me even if it’s a simple sentence of motivation a day. Or even a little validation. Turns out, you can’t even do anything in this app without paying. You can only send one sentence then you get taken out the chat and prompted to pay. Man why do I even try anymore. Oh and if you’re going to say “pay for the subscription or use the trial” I struggle financially on top of that. And I have to spare every dollar I can get. I’ll use another free ai.

### 1/5 — Don't sign up for the trial!!

*2025-11-26, version 12.07.003*

I signed up for the trial but got charged for an entire year and I can't get my money back. I tried the app for about an hour and it was like talking to a robot. I know it's AI, but the answers were awful. I wasted 29.99

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2025-11-24, version 12.07.003*

I have been struggling so bad lately and my fiancé sent me this app because he had seen it somewhere online. I wanted to try it out because I’m struggling financially and have been unable to find a therapist in network these past three months or so and it has been so frustrating and discouraging so I jumped at the chance to try this out. I can’t afford to pay for it though, and you literally can’t use anything helpful unless you pay. I understand it’s a business just like everything else and developers require money but still 😣 There’s hardly anything we can use that isn’t behind a paywall and it makes me sad that people who are actually unwell have to keep funneling money into other people’s pockets in order to stop wanting to d*e. It seems wrong to me.

### 1/5 — Repeats generic questions

*2025-11-10, version 12.07.003*

Read the most recent reviews.
1 stars
Same generic questions over and over.
Like talking to a mindless robot that just keeps asking the same things regardless of your answers.
Is this AI?
More of a broken record.
No wonder you can only subscribe for a year.
That way they can trap you after seven days and you're stuck paying for an app you never use

### 1/5 — It’s not free

*2025-11-01, version 12.07.003*

You need a subscription to use this app.

### 1/5 — Seemed promising, but turned out terrible

*2025-10-29, version 12.07.003*

I really thought this app seemed promising, and was very optimistic, and I will even continue searching for one that is decent, but this app was nothing but a frustrating disappointment, I’m sorry to say. Here’s why in one sentence: this app doesn’t remember the conversation you had with it 5 minutes ago!!! So if you need to put your phone down for a short time, as we all will, when you return you’re starting from scratch and the generalized comfort phrases it uses become insincere and almost sarcastic!! Actually made me angry and frustrated, and for an app like this to do that is ironic and sad. Bye bye Youper, I hope you’re able to improve over time.

### 1/5 — Not Free

*2025-10-15, version 12.07.003*

I thought I would get time to check this out without giving my credit card information but apparently that’s not true. I came here for help, not harassment for my limited financial resources. What little I saw before being required to provide CC number, wasn’t as helpful as what is available for free in various AI platforms. This experience added to my stress more than anything.

### 1/5 — My 1st ever review.

*2025-10-13, version 12.07.003*

I came here in a time of need. And I was greeted with endless attempts to upsell. I feel worse than before. Thanks.

And yes. This is the first review I’ve ever given in my 10 years of owning a smart phone. That’s how terrible this app is. Soulless like the ai you turn to lead you.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Positive change

*2026-02-27, version 12.07.003*

I’ve just started interacting with the app. I feel It has made a positive and helpful change in the direction of my mental health. I plan to continue and be a better me for me and those In my life.

### 5/5 — LOVE IT

*2026-02-22, version 12.07.003*

somehow this actually made a difference ❤️

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2025-12-03, version 12.07.003*

To be honest I don’t self reflect that often like never but this app really helped me with that really helped me understand me better so I highly recommend there’s a free trial if y’all are skeptical but I can tell you I feel great after it

### 5/5 — This is nice

*2025-11-08, version 12.07.003*

This is really good it helped me with my depression and how to fit in

### 5/5 — Surprisingly Effective

*2025-06-01, version 12.07.002*

At first I was a little skeptical about the app thinking that I would just get generic, that’s terrific, sorry to hear that responses.

Boy was I wrong! I felt like I was talking with a professional therapist that was sitting at their desk chatting back in real time.

I couldn’t believe how insightful the conversation was and how the program kept peeling away the complexities or what the actual cause of my frustration or fears were.

I found it to be very empathetic as well. Validating my responses and challenging me to strengthen the practice of getting to the bottom of what you actually need from yourself.

The annual membership is well worth the cost to having the convenience of access to a virtual therapist anywhere, any time day or night.

No need to schedule appointments.

Sessions aren’t bound to just 1 hour. You can stay and communicate as long and as often as you need.

No copays or hourly bills.

Still skeptical, I would at least try the trial and see how this program can change your life.

Action is the first and usually most challenging step. So take that first step towards your new life. You are here and reading this review for a reason.

Give the gift of personal self growth and healing to yourself. YOU DESERVE IT!

***Some suggestions for the developers.

1. Allow Youper to remember the name you would like to be addressed by. I find it would be more of a personal touch if the app addressed me as my chosen name rather than the generic “How are you feeling and how can I help you today.

2. Allow a PIN code to lock the app when closed or when a personal set time limit has elapsed. I find it frustrating to have to log out of my account to prevent someone that is using my phone not to have access to my sessions.

Thank You for an amazing app.

### 5/5 — It checks on me

*2025-03-10, version 12.07.001*

I’m giving it a five because (for some algorithmic reason, I guess), it reaches out for interaction, via notifications, at the appropriate times. It’s a recent download and should use it more. I might try your trial. Thank you

### 5/5 — Amazing value

*2025-01-24, version 12.06.002*

I’ve never written an app review before but credit to the youper team their ai powered checkins are a game changer. Almost as good as a top level therapist but available 24/7 and at a fraction of the cost.

### 5/5 — I’m really struggling mentally so willing to try anything and I do actually find it pretty good

*2025-01-09, version 12.06.002*

For an Ai therapist it’s actually helpful. Like it gives reassuring, good advice, helps with journaling prompts and planning and focusing on positives.
You can tell it anything without feeling embarrassed, and I feel like I could get any random thought out of my head and get a bit of positive perspective on it which is helpful.
I’m pretty impressed and going to give it a trial over time and see what I think.
I’m struggling with bad depression, social anxiety and possibly adhd so anything that helps with that would be great.

### 5/5 — Great app. Just needs speaking feature

*2024-12-28, version 12.06.002*

Great app, It would be nice if it had speaking feature.

### 5/5 — It’s helpful

*2024-11-26, version 12.06.002*

My therapy is on hold while they train my new therapist so talking with AI helps a lot! I sometimes forget it’s AI lol
