Someone mentioned this on Reddit and just, chef’s kiss. This app does a fantastic job teaching the Hangul, which is the Korean alphabet, using mnemonics and teaching writing. The lessons are clear and very well explained. I’ve been making flashcards because that’s how I learn best, but there are awesome resources on the app for that too. I’m in the beginner level still, but the free version is INCREDIBLY generous. It feels so refreshing to not be hounded for money every five seconds. The quality of the material is good and the packaging is cute into little stories. But it lacks syncing between devices, or the syncing is broken, both my IPhone and my IPad (using the IPhone app) have YuSpeak and it doesn’t sync, which is annoying since I use both devices equally. Thought it’d be fun to learn the language with the help of my favourite anime characters. I am very disappointed that I came so far only for me to never continue again… ### 2/5 — Good, but a little frustrating if you can’t pay for a subscription *2025-04-15, version 1.3.3* I got this app to learn Japanese and I really like the way it teaches so I was glad I found it but, after 16 lessons (including 6 for just the alphabets) you have to pay a subscription. Personally, I don’t have any money that I could use for this subscription so I was bummed until I found out if you save up enough coins you can buy a temporary subscription. I really wanted to keep using the app so, I did just that, I saved the required 180 coins for a 3-day subscription. It took a while because I could only get about 6 coins a day (I don’t know if there was a more efficient way) which I mostly get because I know running an app can be really expensive. I got through a fair amount of lesson in that 3 day period but didn’t retain a lot of information because it takes a while before something to sticks in my brain. I thought that I could just keep reviewing those lesson while saving up more coins to get another subscription, but you can’t. After the subscription period ends, you have absolutely no access to the lessons you did, you can’t replay them and you don’t have access to just the singular words for review. Like I said, I get running an app can be expensive but I’d rather just have ads if anything that way those who can pay can have an ad-free experience and those who can’t pay can still learn. Or, at the very least, still have access to lessons unlocked during a premium period. ### 2/5 — Not bad *2025-03-11, version 1.3.3* This is a pretty good app. However, I can only give it 2 stars. I am learning Korean. After a few lessons, I went ahead a bought the premium version because it was advertised that my learning tools would include learning Korean with comics (만화), characters and real life conversations. Unfortunately it’s only when learning Japanese, not Korean. Feels almost like a waste of money when I could’ve utilized another app for that feature like Memrise. Other than that, the lessons and audio aren’t bad. It’s just basic learning tool atp. ### 2/5 — English Translations ☹️ *2025-01-01, version 1.3.3* The English translations aren’t very good. They’re not terrible but it seems like they used Ai to do literal translations. I also don’t enjoy the text input method. The interface isn’t very attractive either. ### 2/5 — It’s better than most but still bad *2024-10-10* The ai review is good and it goes over grammar better than other apps and explains concepts better but saying that it doesn’t give good definitions of words or phrases and makes broad assumptions that you should be able to understand what they’re trying to say even though again it’s not clearly defined. And second and the worst is the audio recording are GARBAGE. Being a foreign learner trying to figure out what a person is trying to say is difficult enough but I don’t need to be frustrated just because the audio recording is hot trash. **Developer response:** Are you talking about the Japanese audio or the Korean audio? There must be some issue that caused your problem. The audio is recorded by a professional native speaker who has sweet vocie, and is the most praised feature in the app by many users. Both are fantastic and worth every penny! 🥳 ### 5/5 — Amazing app for learning Japanese! *2026-07-17, version 1.4.4* I am learning Japanese, but I’m sure my review applies to people studying Korean as well! Everything from the videos of native speakers to the questions and dialogues are very useful and have real world uses. It’s set up so you can master conversational basics quickly if you’re planning a trip in the near future. My favorite feature has to be the audio review feature, instead of listening to a podcast in the car or with your AirPods on around the house, you can review words and grammar/sentences you’ve already covered. On other apps (like the one with the bird) I felt like it was playing a game and after months felt like I didn’t learn much. YuSpeak is definitely better and different from all the other apps, because YuSpeak actually helps familiarize the user to hearing the language spoken and to understand it in order to respond back confidently and correctly. It starts you off easy with simple sentences but the progression in difficulty is natural and not overwhelming, plus it keeps reinforcing the topics you already covered while teaching you new ones. I highly recommend downloading YuSpeak, it has a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips for learning Japanese and resources such as stories to read based on language level and as I mentioned before hands free audio reviews of the material you’ve already covered. ### 5/5 — I Love This! *2026-07-03, version 1.4.4* I really love this it was informative and fun and the nemonic’s really helped me remember some made me laugh cause that’s not how the sounds go in English however I understood the connotation, context and connection so it still works. And once I got the hang of it I don’t have to think so much and can just remember! Thanks for the great app! It’s literally my first time trying this app and I feel like I really learned, understand and can retain. Great job! Thanks for your hard work it’s really paying off!
