## What is Zebra?

Learn to read music in five minutes a day, by playing. Zebra turns music theory into 21 little games, a note reading, rhythm and ear trainer in one: you start by naming a white key, and one day you're reading two clefs at once, key signature and all.

NEW TO MUSIC? PERFECT
52 short lessons guide you step by step: the piano keyboard, the staff, rhythm, intervals, scales, chords and ear training. Each lesson ends with a game, so you practice what you just learned right away. Kids or adults, total beginners or music students, everyone goes at their own pace.

READ NOTES IN TREBLE AND BASS CLEF
Learn to read music notes on the staff and find them on the piano keyboard, then the other way around. Treble clef first, bass clef next, then both together, the way pianists read. Further on, sharps, flats and naturals join in, and key signatures sit at the start of the staff, just like on real sheet music. In Sight Reading, the notes scroll toward you and you play them in time, until reading music becomes second nature.

RHYTHM, ON CARDS AND BY EAR
The Rhythm game uses cards, just like in a piano lesson: read the bar, the metronome counts, and you tap it, with one hand and then both. Whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighths, sixteenths and rests are all in there. In Rhythm Dictation, you hear a rhythm and play it back; in Rhythm Builder, you rebuild it note by note.

EAR TRAINING
Name a note or a chord just by listening, and learn the color of every interval. Major or minor, third or fifth: your ear learns to put a name on what it hears.

MUSIC THEORY WITHOUT THE HEADACHE
Intervals, major and minor scales, chords and key signatures: build them on the keyboard and recognize them on the staff, in every key. And for a break, seventeen tunes you know are playable from the first chapters.

FIVE MINUTES IS ENOUGH
A round takes about a minute, and you know right away if you got it: the note turns green, or red. One round while you wait for the bus is already progress. Win five and you've hit your daily goal.

671 LEVELS TO KEEP YOU GROWING
Every game climbs gently, from the white keys all the way to key signatures full of sharps and flats. There's enough here to keep you learning for months.

TO KEEP YOU GOING
• A daily challenge, the same for everyone
• A look back at your week every Monday: what you played and what's improving
• Quests, and a streak that rewards showing up

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.22.2 — 2026-10-16

This update fixes the reading games and keeps Sight Reading playable right up to the last levels.
Enjoy!

### 1.22.1 — 2026-10-11

This update makes the Rhythm game much easier to get into.

- At first, only the moment you tap counts, and you get more leeway to land on the beat. Holding half notes and whole notes only counts from level 14, and even then you just keep your finger down until the next beat.
- The levels now move much more gently: one new thing at a time, and the dots stay under the cards until level 25. A mistake no longer sets you back, and costs less life.
- To start, read the cards, then press Start: a gauge fills up in time with the metronome, and you play when it's full. After each bar, the next one appears on its own, and a card you missed stays for another try.
- With Bluetooth headphones, the game now makes up for the sound delay: tap when you hear the metronome, and you're on time.
- The pad responds instantly: the sound starts the moment your finger touches it, with a light vibration.
- In Rhythm Dictation too, holding notes is now much more forgiving: only clear mistakes count.

Enjoy!

### 1.22 — 2026-09-28

A big update, mostly for rhythm and note reading.

• Rhythm: the game now uses cards, just like in a piano lesson. Read the bar, tap to start the metronome, then play it. Between bars, the metronome waits for you. Later on, your left hand joins in, and from level 11, holding a note counts as much as striking it.
• Key signatures: at the higher levels of Note → Name, Note → Key, Key → Note and Full keyboard, sharps and flats sit in the key signature, just like on real sheet music. A note with no sign follows the key signature, and the natural sign joins in.
• Every Monday, Zebra looks back at your week: what you played, what's improving and what's worth another go. You can even share your week as an image.
• Your progress is saved in iCloud, so it's there on your iPad or your next phone.
• Scales: Scale fill gets twenty new levels, all the way to naming the 4th note of G major in your head. And the scale games now start gently, with C, G and F major.
• Little Melodies: thirteen more versions, so each tune comes back at several levels.
• Rhythm Dictation and Rhythm Builder: no more surprise syncopations in the early levels.
• A locked chapter now tells you how to open it, and no pop-up hides behind the tab bar anymore.
• Plus lots of small touches: rhythm lessons where you can hear every card, clearer help pages, shorter piano keys, and games you can unlock at the top of the list.

Enjoy!

### 1.21 — 2026-09-17

New game, Key → Note: a key lights up, you place the note on the staff, sharps and flats included. And Key to Name now spans two octaves.
• Real engraving: clefs, rests, accidentals, bar lines and beamed eighth notes. In Sight Reading, notes finally show their duration.
• Two new chapters: The Bar, and Accidentals (sharp, flat, natural, key signature).
• Rhythm Dictation: you now hear durations and rests, and holding a note counts as much as striking it. The pattern is written out after your answer.
• Little Melodies: seventeen tunes instead of ten, and the same tune comes back later, longer and with its real rhythm.
• Rethought home screen: a lesson, an exercise, a challenge, always in the same place, and the app suggests one.
• Rebuilt Quests tab: your progress reads at a glance.
• Reminders: the daily goal and the daily challenge now have their own switches.
• iPad: layouts reworked, and the landscape piano finally fills the screen.

Have fun!

### 1.20.1 — 2026-09-10

NEW

• Your streak, your daily goal and the challenge now share one bar, with the time you have left. Tap it for the details.
• Start where you belong — "I already play" unlocks the keyboard and reading games right away.
• Melodies: the staff shows five notes at a time, like real sheet music. Notes you've played fade behind you; the ones you stumbled on stay visible.
• A Stop button while listening, and the tune plays through once you clear the level.
• Full Keyboard: answer on five scrolling octaves, with the octave number on every C. Free Play piano gets the same marker.
• The intervals lesson now goes all the way — major, minor, perfect, and a table of all twelve intervals you can play row by row.
• Chord Building: every note sounds.

FIXED

• Sight Reading games now count everywhere: daily goal, quests and statistics.
• The "win games in a row" quest updates live, across all games.
• A level cleared for the first time is announced as one, even when it earns no star.
• The journey no longer sends you to a game you've already finished.
• On the piano, several keys light up together and each fades on its own.
• Statistics: curves without loops, and dates you can actually read.
• Scale Recognition: answers reset after a lost game.
• On iPad, the daily bar is finally sized for the screen.
