Feedback for Medical Massage Documentation in the Zeel Provider App

1. Automate Patient Pain Assessments
All required pain assessment scales should be automatically sent to the patient for completion prior to the scheduled appointment. Having these assessments completed before the session would improve efficiency, reduce administrative burden, and provide providers with clinically relevant information at the start of treatment.
2. Improve the Medical Massage Documentation Workflow
The current appointment workflow does not provide sufficient time for providers to complete a comprehensive SOAP note while also delivering uninterrupted hands-on treatment. Clinical documentation should support patient care without reducing treatment time or requiring providers to choose between documentation quality and patient care.
3. Allow Pain Assessments to Save Independently
Pain assessment scores should save independently as they are entered rather than requiring completion of the entire SOAP note. Currently, if the session documentation is interrupted or not finalized, pain scale data may be lost. This creates unnecessary duplicate work, increases the risk of missing clinical information, and can negatively affect continuity of care by preventing accurate comparison of patient-reported outcomes across visits.
4. Clarify or Update the Medical Massage Checkout Workflow
The current training materials reference a “Check Out” process that is not available for medical massage appointments. Either:
  • Update the training materials to accurately reflect the existing workflow, or
  • Add a “Check Out” option for medical massage visits that preserves the provider’s session checklist and documentation requirements.

These improvements would strengthen documentation accuracy, enhance provider efficiency, and support better continuity of care while creating a workflow that aligns with real-world medical massage practice.

The app works well for standard massage clients however I have been unable to check out of medical massage appointments without completing the entire SOAP note. I have updated, deleted, re-installed the app and I have reported to help desk as well as to the help team every time they reach out to me to confirm if I’ve completed the session. I’ve been informed this issue is being worked on.

Support for providers is very difficult to obtain, particularly with medical massage. No live support is available. Responses to inquiries or requests for assistance, if answered at all, rarely happen in under 4 days. Much goes ignored though. 

I don’t understand the high,AI generated summary of feedback from providers. Updates are rarer than support with a booking. 

It is a great way to earn extra income. Unfortunately though the pay isn’t great. Cost of living, supplies considered, gasoline, traffic, life, the payout is really low. There should be a much better payout to therapists after 7pm. There should be support available, and enough of it, while zeel still allows therapists to go to client homes. It’s grossly irresponsible not to. 

Medical massage work can be rewarding but it is a lot more responsibility on the therapist and paid less than other bookings. Clients show their invoices to me, showing what zeel bills for. Zeel keeps 68% of what they charge and no support is available to therapists.

Usually clients are easy to deal with but when they are not, which is a relatively small number, support is difficult to obtain.  I recommend if going to a new client, do not park in their building if access is restricted and the gate needs to be unlocked with a clicker.  

When taking medical appointments, be sure to speak with the patient and learn details of street parking and also if they give the impression of being respectful of your time and are able to keep their appointments, or at least can give you a 24 hour notice of cancellation.  If they aren’t home when you arrive for their appointment, there is no “no show” or “last minute cancellation” payment given, like with regular members.  

This is a great way to make a little extra money for a therapist, but medical appointments can result in a lot of extra work, being connected with patients who have PTSD or other psychological traumas.  The work can be rewarding, immensely so, but there can also be unexpected issues that not everyone is prepared to encounter.  

Support, when reached by phone are very kind, but it is very hard to accomplish a connection.  Chat support often goes unanswered days or even a week.

If new to this platform, consider taking couples massage sessions. Therapists are kind and will give notes and tips which helped me when I was new. If you have a massage chair, bid on events as there are many friendly people who work well in team environments and will become great connections.  And also, for late night appointments, consider that some times the client might have other interests so it’s best to only take sessions after 7pm if they are a couples massage.

As much work as I can count on getting from zeal, 99% of which is working with veterans and requires documentation on electronic medical forms, the truth is this app is overwhelmingly underwhelming. As an independent contractor, the amount of issues I encounter with documentation and the high number of requests made by zeal to help them identify and isolate the problem is sadly, astonishing.  Adding to that, glitches don’t really improve and signing in becomes more complicated over time. But the most annoying detail is how often medical documentation disappears altogether and has to be replaced, often hours or even a day after the session was completed and more patients have been seen. Engineering seems inadequate and this is highly disappointing as I seem to care more than zeel itself does.
