I find it sometimes difficult to remember how to navigate off a current project & begin a new one as it is not obviously evident how to close one project & open a fresh page. If I could add or change anything it would be instant erase. There is an animation that plays when you delete your drawing space that gets annoying and slows down practice. The delete key is also quite small and can be a difficult targets to hit. My workaround is to practice writing in water mode with fast drying, but adding a finger swipe to delete or a “black water” (disappearing ink) function would make it perfect to crank out hundreds of kanji. Also, the grid layer is nice, but even at the largest grid, to get a quadrant you need to zoom in. Increasing from 768x1024 to 2400x3200 fixes the problem of the dithering being too large and immediately highlights the improvements of the brush engine in 3 over 2. I imagine the reason the default is so low is for better battery life / FPS on lower spec iPads. I used to use it on my iPhone7 and it was pressure sensitive touch, but I noticed this when I changed to iPhone12PRO yesterday. It does capture pressure/tilt of pencil, but does not apply them faithfully for ink simulation creating a very awkward feeling. With rapid strokes, ink lightens regardless how much pressure you apply, and the brush continues to shoot forward due to some sort of motion prediction. Honestly haven’t gave this bad of a review to an app I once enjoy so much. ### 1/5 — お金返して欲しいです *2021-06-16* Zen Brush 2の書き味に比べると酷すぎます。別物です。 2の書き味そのままでレイヤーが使えるようになったのかと思ってたのに最悪です。 2度と使いません。 ### 1/5 — 色々ともう少し！【書き直しと追記あり】 *2021-04-23, version 1.05* アプリ自体は最初から基本的には良いです。価格も良心的。 でも1、2、3と毎度買い直し。 買い切りって良いでしょ！って思うかもしれませんが、大きなアプデが無くて、毎度アプリを買い直してもらう。という形を取ってます。 無料期間などもないので、お試ししてからお金を支払う。という事ができないので、ユーザーからの不満の声も大きくなるのも頷けます。 なので、少なくとも「無料試用期間」と多少のアプデはしてほしいです。 毎度ながら大幅に機能追加されず、地味な修正だけが入る傾向があるため、新機能追加に期待が出来ないのは結構しんどいです。 なお、今回の3からやっと色が使えるようになりました。素晴らしいのですが、色数には限りはあります。 ただしそれも色が混ざり合えばまぁ良いかなと。 それよりもここまで作ったのであればレイヤー機能はほしい所。数少ないアンドゥだけでは辛いです。 それと筆の動きが最初から補正されてるのも最初から気になっています。描画補正の調節もドロー系に近づけたのであれば、基本的なものだと思うので欲しいと思いました。 【結果】 土台が良いけどあと一歩。痒いところに手が届かないむず痒さがなんとも言えない。 でもそれでも毎度購入しているので、それだけ良さもある。 書道が元だったから、ちょっと戻れる機能だけある良いでしょ。それで書きなさいな。という方もいるかもですが… デジタルでアナログらしく、思ったものに近い表現を出すには創意工夫しないと描き手としても辛さがありますが、足掻ける機能がない。と言う感じ。 機能までもアナログに近い必要は無いと思います。 もはや、今回水墨画という絵描き方面に振ったなら、別アプリで絵を描くのに特化したものがあっても良いんじゃないかと正直思いました。 別アプリでも水を敷いてから描いてにじみがでる。水彩的表現ができる物がいくつかありますが、このアプリの良さがあるからこそ、あともう少し！と思う次第です。はっきり言って滲み方のリアル感は1番です。 【追記4月23日・レイヤー機能追加後】 まさかのちゃんとレイヤー機能がアプデで追加されました。 使い勝手は良いとまでいえないですが、使えます。結構頑張ってる感じでやってくれてます。画像追加もできるようになりました。 あとは、他の方がレビューで書かれている「2のほうが…」と言う意見。 正直筆のサイズ調節は2の方が良かったですし、消しゴムなどの機能は、色々な消し方ができても良いかなと思うところが大きいです。 ただし、2であった違和感を覚える筆感は払拭されて、ちゃんと墨で書いた質感が3では表現されています。 2の書き味は、とてつもなく強い描画補正が入っていたおかげだと思いますが、それ故に「それっぽく書きやすい」でした。 3では「それなりに自分の腕で変わる」と言う感じ。それでも補正（筆圧などではなく、描画補正）が加わっているので、細部を描くときにペンを離した所から線が吹っ飛んで行きます。 この辺りは、2が好きだった方にも、3で絵も描きたい方にも応えられるように、描画補正を0から100まで調節がすぐに出来ると嬉しい所かと思います。 ぜひともそろそろ2とか3とかではなく「Zen Brush」と言う名前で固定されて欲しいですね。「Zen Brush Pro」とかでも良いかと思います。 名前が変わるだけで使いたくなるし、特別な機能は課金で追加という形を取ってくれたら、何より嬉しい限り。 開発者の方々がとてつもなく頑張ってくれているのは感じますし、有名アプリではあるので、もっと強気で金額あげてでもユーザーが「やっぱりこのアプリが筆系なら良いね。」「とりあえず基本的に筆で文字とか絵を描く人はこのアプリ入れておけばOK」と言われるところまでやりきって欲しいです。 ### 1/5 — スタイラスペンが使えません *2020-12-21* 2を愛用しております。色が使えるので期待を込めて3も購入したのですが色が増えた事以外は2を著しく劣化させた感想です。 説明にはAppleペンシルとスタイラスペンと2種類の記載があるのにもかかわらず、ペンシル以外のスタイラスペンは使えませんでした。 使えたとしても筆圧が10段回しかなく、繊細な表現が出来なくなりました。WacomのFinelineを使っていますが2では使えますが3では使えません。久々にアプリの購入で後悔しました。 2はデジタル書道と言えると思いますが、3は水墨画とは言えずただのにじむペイントソフトという評価をします。 2が素晴らしかっただけに残念です。 ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Zen Brush 3 *2026-09-04, version 1.19.1* The most superb brush art app. Fabulous. ### 5/5 — Super Fun *2025-10-29, version 1.17* Delightful tool to practice, experiment and imagine with - using it is a vast improvement over doom scrolling. ### 5/5 — Amazing! *2023-08-23* One of the most natural - and because of its simplicity most beautiful - drawing apps when it comes to brushes (and shodo brush use is quite demanding concerning technique)! ### 5/5 — Unique App + Support that delivers! *2023-07-25, version 1.13.1* “ Greetings!
