Zen Slate is a place to write that stays out of the way. A slate is a page. Write on it, tag it, file it, or leave it as it is. Nothing is arranged for you. REBUILT FROM NOTHING Version 2.0 is a complete native rewrite. It opens faster, scrolls through long documents without stuttering, and stops fighting you when a slate gets big. Everything you already had comes across on the first launch, with its categories, tags, bookmarks and trash intact. WRITE PROPERLY Headings, bold, italics, quotes, code blocks, checklists and highlights. Drop in photos with captions. Attach PDFs and files. Record a voice note and have it transcribed on your device. Scan a document with the camera. DRAW, PROPERLY Apple Pencil gets the full set: pen, pencil, marker, highlighter, eraser, lasso and ruler, with the whole colour picker and undo. The canvas opens full screen, because drawing wants the display. Sketches stay editable after you save them, so a diagram can be corrected next week instead of redrawn. TOOLS FOR WRITING, NOT FOR FILING A live word count and reading time in the corner, out of the way until you look for it. Focus mode hides the chrome and keeps the line you are writing at a fixed height, so your eyes stop tracking down the page. TODOS THAT LIVE IN YOUR WRITING A checklist inside a slate is a real todo, not a dead tickbox. Give it a date, a reminder, a priority or a repeat, and it appears in one list beside everything else you owe. See them on a month at a glance, so a heavy Thursday is visible before you agree to a tenth thing. Mirror them into Apple Reminders if you want, off by default. A LIBRARY THAT SCALES Categories hold categories, so eight hundred slates do not become one flat list. Saved searches become smart folders that fill themselves as you write. Select many slates at once to file, bookmark or clear, with the count named before anything moves. Search everything you have written, and link slates with double brackets. Every slate shows what links to it, so a note from months ago finds its way back. COMING FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE Import a folder of Markdown and keep your structure: folders become categories, tags come across, and your dates are preserved, so an old archive stays in the order you wrote it. Evernote .enex files, RTF and HTML come in too. YOURS, AND ONLY YOURS Zen Slate keeps your writing on your device. Sync runs through your own iCloud account, so your words never touch a server of ours. There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to. Sync now says what it is doing, and says why in plain words when it cannot. If a change from another device replaces something you wrote, your version is kept in the slate's history rather than lost.
