This app has helped me a lot. However, could you add a feature that deletes categories I’ve added and renames categories I’ve added? I can’t find a way to delete a category. Thank you. **Developer response:** Hi merryhy, Thank you for using ZenTube, glad that it helped you. Currently, there is no renaming function in the app. You can workaround this by creating ew category and removing the old one. You can delete a category by going to the subscriptions page > Tap the edit button on the top right corner > Tap the delete button next to the category name. Then, you can create a new category and put the channels in as you like. I will add the rename function in the next update. I can totally understand that. Unfortunately, no third party YouTube client can add a background playback feature in-app. Doing so will be a breach of their ToS. Considering that alone, ZenTube is not taking that risk, hope you can understand. Thanks, Hong ### 5/5 — Youtube as a Tool, Not an Addiction *2026-03-05* recently i have been trying to better my life by massively reducing the amount of time i spend on a screen. i quit netflix, snapchat, instagram and twitter. i also wanted to quit youtube because their recommendations and shorts keep me on their app for hours, but i could not completely cut off youtube because its an important way of getting news. zentube is exactly what i was looking for! i can still watch youtube and learn from it without the ads, shorts, and other distractions. (also i get to avoid youtube’s ai features which is a plus) i highly recommend this app **Developer response:** Thank you very much for your kind review, vikingberry! Takes a bit of time to set up, but it does make me use the app more intentionally. I actually pick what I want to watch/listen to and then put my phone down, rather than aimlessly scroll through 40 suggested videos I don’t care about. On it. ## Most praised reviews (3 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Fundamentally great at doing what it’s supposed to do *2025-01-25* ZenTube is a better way to watch YouTube if you’re like me and you spend too much of your time on the platform. By restricting what content is available or easily accessible, it can help you make smarter decisions with your time and what you actually want to watch. However, these restrictions can feel frustrating when compared to the normal YouTube app. Although this is by design, I promise you that having no easily accessible recommendation page or shorts button to press will get to you much more than you would like to think. I do think there are room for improvements in this app, namely: 1. Including video duration somewhere in the subscriptions section - sometimes I have a set duration where I want to watch something and don’t want to pick something too long or short 2. Being able to log in to YouTube - I understand that the app is built in a way that prevents this, but often I watch YouTube on other devices which don’t have ZenTube, leading to inconsistencies in my watched videos and other things that are slightly annoying. 3. Being able to turn restrictive features on or off. For example, I quite like seeing thumbnails, which are disabled on the app for all subscriptions videos. Overall, the app isn’t perfect but it’s a hell of a lot better than the default YT app for preventing binge watching or scrolling. ### 5/5 — Really good *2024-05-22* Wow this is actually pretty good and it works how I expected it to I can filter educational and business channels without the thumbnail and save my time, thanks for making this **Developer response:** Hi Shaun, You're welcome.
