## What is Zero Considerations?

Zero Considerations is a ballistics calculator that closes the loop. Get your drops, drift and holdovers for any load — then photograph your target at the range and get the exact scope clicks to move point of impact to point of aim. All measurement and ballistics work offline on your phone; the only network use is an optional weather lookup you trigger yourself.

DIAL IN YOUR ZERO

### 1.7 — 2026-09-05

A much bigger catalog, and every scope entry now carries its own turret.

• 1,043 optic entries. Each reticle version of a scope is its own entry, with that version's exact click value taken from the manufacturer — so the clicks you are told to dial are the clicks your turret actually takes.
• Reticles drawn to the manufacturers' own subtension sheets, so the holdovers you see match the glass you are looking through.
• 852 firearms, with barrel length, twist and sight height.
• More rails recognised, so height over bore is right without measuring it yourself.
• Still no account, no upload, and no signal needed.

The one-photo update.

• Photograph your shot target once — the app now finds the target and every bullet hole on its own. No outlining, no reference objects on the paper.
• Shooting a store-bought target? Just type its printed size — one number if it's square.
• Watch it work: your hits get ringed live as they're found, about half a minute on your phone.
• Tell it how many rounds you fired and it keeps the best matches — old holes and the shot-up backer are ignored.
• Exact clicks for your scope, group size in real inches and MOA, and the orange box shows exactly where it measured.
• Still no account, no upload, no signal needed. Everything runs on your phone.

### 1.5 — 2026-08-26

Follow-up strings now line up automatically.

The biggest fix in this update: when you shoot a second string and the two
photos were taken from slightly different spots, the app now uses the target's
own corner markers to lay the photos on top of each other exactly. Before this,
a small camera shift could bury your new shots in a pile of false holes. Now the
app tells old holes from new ones the way you would.

A mode for splatter and reactive targets.

Bright-ring targets reveal hits instead of leaving dark holes, so they need a
different eye. On the results screen you can now tell the app your target is a
reactive/splatter face and it switches to a detector built for them.

Better measurements from the round you lay on the target.

For most calibers the app now measures the brass case instead of the whole
cartridge. Case length is fixed by the cartridge design, so different bullet
weights in the same caliber no longer stretch the ruler. The finder is also
better at spotting brass by color, and refuses a common mistake where it
measured the copper bullet instead of the case.

It asks instead of guessing.

When the app is not sure of the photo's scale, it no longer quietly fills in
its best guess. It shows you what it found and asks you to confirm or fix it
before anything downstream depends on it.

Store-bought targets are found more reliably.

The app now weighs round and rectangular outlines against each other and picks
the one that actually frames your target, instead of committing early to the
wrong shape.

Also: search everywhere in the app is forgiving about wording and order
("primary 1-8", "556", "acss primary" all work). Exported session reports now
record which app version produced them. New optics in the catalog, including
the Primary Arms 1-8 FFP line and Warne mounts.

### 1.4 — 2026-08-19

Better at finding holes in difficult photos.

Three real changes to the photo analysis:

Small holes. Small or distant holes are now enlarged before the model looks at
them. In bench testing, on the smallest holes we measure, this took the model
from finding almost none of them to finding most of them.

Black bullseyes. On a black bull a fresh hole is usually brighter than the paper
around it, not darker. The app now looks for that too, instead of only hunting
for dark spots.

Your target's outline is found again on the after photo instead of being carried
over from the before photo, so a target that shifted between shots no longer
drags the outline off with it.

Setting the scale on a target that isn't one of ours.

You now say up front whether your target face is round or rectangular. A round
face cannot be fenced by a square, and guessing was costing accuracy.

Measuring your reference cartridge is now two separate, lockable steps: length
and width. If the two disagree the app says so and asks you to re-measure,
rather than quietly picking one. A single measurement can no longer become the
ruler on its own. Slug calibers the app cannot measure reliably now say so
instead of guessing.

It will not sound more certain than it is.

Where the app will not stand behind your zero, it no longer prints a confident
"dial up 8, left 4" anywhere: not in the exported PDF, not in your session
history, and not on the results screen. Where it still shows the measurement, it
says plainly that this is a measurement and not a call, and that dialing it does
not make the rifle zeroed.

Also: photos are compacted when you finish a session, so saved sessions take up
far less space.

### 1.3 — 2026-08-11

The detection engines actually run now.

The on-device models that find bullet holes, cartridges and target markers were
never loading in released builds — the app had been quietly falling back to the
simpler detector on every photo. All three now load. If your photo analysis has
been hit-or-miss, this is why, and this is the fix.

You can see which engine ran. Both photo screens now name the engine that
handled your image and say plainly when one is unavailable, instead of failing
over in silence. Hole finding is also more accurate when two engines disagree.

Clearer instructions, everywhere. Every step that asks for a scale reference now
says the same thing in the same words: shoot a printed Zero Considerations
target (#1–#5) and you need nothing else; on any other target, lay one round of
your cartridge on the paper before you shoot. Thanks to the tester who told us
the old wording was confusing — you were right.

Smaller fixes: your mount setup is remembered between sessions, the scale-type
chips are no longer stuck on a cached reading, and the results view stops
jumping while you edit hole positions.

After you save a completed session, the app may now ask once whether you'd like
to rate it. Everyone gets asked the same way, nothing is withheld either way,
and it will not ask again for a month.
