## What is Zitatknacker Cryptogram?

IMPORTANT: every puzzle is a GERMAN quote or proverb. German reading skills are required to play. The app interface is available in English.

A quote, encrypted. Each letter stands for another one. You crack the code – and what is left is a sentence worth reading.

HOW IT WORKS
Tap an encrypted symbol and pick the letter you think is behind it. The assignment applies across the whole quote at once, and every identical symbol lights up with it. The frequency bar shows which symbol occurs most often – which is how a substitution cipher is actually cracked. No timer, no guessing.

Goethe, Schiller, Nietzsche, Lichtenberg, Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach, Wilhelm Busch, Heinrich Heine – plus German proverbs and words of wisdom. Every cracked quote shows its author, source and a short explanation of what it means. Your collection grows with each solved puzzle and can be browsed by author.

THE TEXTS
All puzzles are in German. The corpus is curated and public domain: traditional German proverbs and sayings plus quotes by authors whose copyright term has expired. It ships locally with the app; there is no user-generated content.
