DayZ ships without a map. ZLocator is the map you run beside it: point your phone or tablet at the screen and it tells you where you are, what the town is called and which way you are facing. HOW IT WORKS Aim the camera at your game screen — TV, monitor or handheld — and lock the frame. Every three seconds the app sends what it sees, matches the terrain against about a million reference views, and moves your marker on the map. Nothing is read out of the game. We walked every terrain in-game and photographed it from every angle; the reference views, the map tiles and the place names are all our own. WHAT YOU GET • Your position on the map, updated as you play • The name of the town you are in • The direction you are facing • Nearest well, shop, military zone, hospital, fire station, fuel, school, landmark, helicopter crash and wreck • Road signs read and used to confirm the fix • Chernarus, Livonia and Sakhal — one subscription covers all of them, and every map we add later WORKS WITH ANY SCREEN PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2. ZLocator does not care what is driving the screen, only what is on it — docked or handheld, and nothing is installed on the console. A tablet in a stand, in landscape, is the setup this is built for — the map gets the room it deserves. A phone works too. The map itself is stored on your device, so panning and zooming stays smooth. Only the locked frame is straightened, scaled down and sent for recognition. HONEST LIMITS • It names the town and picks the right road out of it. It is not a GPS-exact dot. • It needs game daylight. Night does not work; dusk and heavy rain cost accuracy. • Standing still in deep forest is the worst case — trees give the match nothing to grip. Keep walking, or read a road sign. • Indoors, four walls could be anywhere on the map. If the marker looks wrong, press Reset. It throws the lock away and starts from a blank slate. Place search remembers what you looked up before. Clearer messages when a picture cannot be used. ### 1.0.2 — 2026-09-11 Fixes in this update: - Manual frame: the bottom corner handles could sit under the button bar and could not be dragged. They are now always visible and can be grabbed even when a button is underneath. - Map place names are larger and easier to read, and small villages show up more often on Livonia and Sakhal. - Captures now go out on a steady 3 second rhythm, so more frames reach the server while you walk. ### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-11 The map now shows many more place names. On Livonia and Sakhal it was showing only a handful; now it shows the places around you, as many as fit on screen. Start now clears the previous fix, so stopping and starting again no longer carries an old position over.
