Complete waste of time and money I will be switching this month. Update: This app is going to cause a lawsuit or worse, these are security cameras. While trying to locate someone on the property, you have to go through all these adds. This is a horrible way to run your service and you will most likely lose business like mine, in addition to bad reviews which will make nobody want to use you. Would not recommend ### 1/5 — Return your cameras if you bought these before you open them *2026-08-23, version 7.1.4* Used to be a cost effective camera system. I even paid for the cloud support. Even as a paid subscriber, I have to watch an ad before opening the app, and then there are ads on the Home Screen of the app, and when you try to view your cameras live you also occasionally get ads. Did you just get a notification there was movement at your front door? Well I hope you don’t mind waiting and watching advertisements before you’re allowed to view your cameras, even if you’re paying for the premium service. If you bought these cameras, I would suggest returning them for a refund before you open them and not subscribing to anything. It used to be a dependable service, but now it is unusable. I am canceling my subscriptions and getting a new camera system. Switch to Wyze ### 1/5 — Worst cameras out there and very unethical company. *2026-08-23, version 7.1.4* I stuck with this company for over a decade and ended up with over 30 cameras. Image quality is mediocre but I stayed with them because I had so many. I bought all those cameras with the understanding that I could view 10 second video clips based on motion detected. A few months ago they took away the 10 second view feature with a firmware update to the cameras I did not authorize. This makes the cameras useless. The removal of this feature which was not understood at the purchase of all the cameras is illegal and a scummy way of doing business. And Now several ad windows pop up just to open the app every time. Horrible app experience ! WE NEED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THIS UNETHICAL HORRIBLE COMPANY!!! - deceptive and unfair business practices - failure to deliver the product as advertised. Switch and bait -removal of important paid for features without consent. - intentional push towards paid Cloud services through removal of the most important feature that was free prior. DO NOT BUY THESE CAMERAS. There are far better options out there from far more ethical companies. UPDATE 8-22-26. The greedy, unethical developers responded to this post by saying the firmware updates with an app and that their app does not do this. THIS IS A LIE. I am using their app and this issue happened when I bought 2 new cameras and got 30 days each free cloud service. Once those two expired with that free cloud service they updated the firmware on ALL my cameras (30) WITHOUT MY PERMISSION and I no longer could see the 10 second motion activated video clips on any of the 30 cameras. Only a photo that does not even show what caused the motion. USELESS!!!!! It is obvious this company is going out of business with cameras they have not updated in a decade and such poor ethics that everybody hates them. Just in the last year this has happened. It takes me over 30 second to even get access to the app to look at cameras. Contacted customer support but to no avail, couldn’t get the QR code to scan. Fast forward to the second camera, I changed my WiFi and couldn’t get that one to scan the QR code. Last but not least, rhe 3rd camera is still up and running no problem. But now, I have to wait until the ads finish to check my footage or check the live stream. So this September I will not be renewing my subscription. They have been trying to lure me into the cloud now for years, and since I never took them up on it, then every time I wanted to look at my camera system I had the watch ads. Now one ad won't allow me to have access to my camera system. They literally killed the system because I wouldn't let them change the model that they agreed to provide when I bought the system ### 1/5 — They ruined it *2026-08-25, version 7.1.4* The app used to work great, but the motion detection was meh. They added ADs during the last update and now it’s terrible. This is a security app. If I get an alert or need to check my home, access should be immediate—not delayed by an advertisement. I’ve contacted Zmodo twice, and they apparently have no intention of reconsidering this “feature.” Ads should never take priority over security. It goes to loud advertisements that you’re forced to watch and listen to before you can even check your surveillance. Even worse, there is no way to click out of them and when you try to do so it instead launches the advertisement for you to download or purchase. You could be having a burglar outside your house and you wouldn’t be able to check it because you’re forced to watch endless advertisements that you can’t click out. It’s like being stuck in purgatory for all eternity. I’d rather count a 50 pound bag of rice than keep this surveillance system. Absolute nightmare! ### 5/5 — Ads on a security camera app *2026-05-31* I’ve used zmodo for 8+ years. I have over 20 cameras. That app was fine until this last update. Now I have ads popping up every time I open the app. I bought these cameras for security purposes and y’all are trying to profit off our security. We paid for the cameras we shouldn’t be subject to watching an ads because of your greed. Also don’t like the fact that your new cameras don’t work with zmodo NVR. I purchased a 32 channel NVR and the last 4 cameras I’ve bought won’t show up on the NVR. I chatted with someone and they told me the new cameras are not compatible because of firmware. So even though I have an NVR you are trying to force me to purchase cloud storage when you can make your firmware compatible with the NVR but you choose profit over customer satisfaction. **Developer response:** Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. Regarding NVRs and new cameras, the issue is hardware related and we unfortunately have not produced NVRs since 2018. It would not be viable to stop advancing camera functionality to maintain compatibility with products we no longer produce so eventually it was necessary to make concessions to further improve the cameras. ### 5/5 — Ads *2026-05-24, version 7.1.2* Loved this until you started ads upon opening. If I need to check my security I probably don’t freaking have time to watch an ad you absolute baffoons. This is a security app. Make us pay for it if you need to, but don’t add ads to a SECURITY APP. ### 5/5 — Best long term cameras *2024-03-20, version 6.2.10* I’ve had these cameras for over 6 years. They are easy to connect to WiFi and they last for at least 3 years. I’ve had to replace it once. I had an issue were the app kicked me out and wouldn’t let me log back in. I reached out to Zmodo customer support and they fixed the issue in less than a day. I have sky and though it’s banded as 1 it’s not and the cameras recognise this and set themselves up. These are fantastic. However - I need help - Apple released ios17 and removed the ability to select a notification sound from sounds and haptics and left ios17 with a stupid inaudible barely discernible sound making my cameras useless to alert me to issues as m can’t hear the Apple unsettable sound - I’ve contacted them. Is there a way to assign a notification sound in the Zmodo app? Is this a possible feature which can be added?? Doesn’t affect the rating as this isn’t a zmodo app problem it’s apples but wondered if the zmodoa app developers could add in a work around to solve this! ### 5/5 — Great for the price *2023-02-15, version 6.2.6* I’ve had my cameras around 5 years and they give me what i wanted out of a security camera I have 3 cameras and I see everything whenever I’m not at home so far great cameras along with my ring camera I see everything out of state or in California glad I got them thumbs up 👍🏾 ### 5/5 — Awesome *2022-07-08* I totally bought this camera for outside after my car got broken into! I have since had to take it inside as my Mom is on hospice palliative care with my brother in the service and a sister in Colorado and a Brother who is out north we have all been able to access the camera and be able to share in Moms transition!
