The concept is brilliant, and the storyline is on par! If you have live activities turned on from Apple’s fitness app while logging a run, and the audio comes on to provide splits, ZRX glitches bad. It continues tracking the run, but the timeline for the audio is totally borked. I was stuck trying to pause and play ZRX, and my live updates to get it running. I never got it working and ended up running far longer than bargained, hoping the story would resume. I used to absolutely hate running and exercising because I felt like I was awful. With this app, I have gotten so much better at running. I have gone from not even being able to make it 1 km without having to stop numerous times, to regularly running 10 km and truly enjoying it! It is an amazing storyline with truly immersive character design. Even though fictional, Sam has always been there for me to give me that boost to keep going with my exercise goals! You also get periodic real emails from the characters to truly immerse you into the world of Able. Try this app, you won’t regret it! ### 5/5 — Most Fun Way to Exercise *2026-05-30, version 12.4.4* As an adult with ADHD, it’s really hard to build and maintain long-term habits that don’t have an immediate reward. Zombies Run brings that reward much closer to the task, because I get to feel excited anticipating the next episode after being left on a cliff hanger by the zombie-plot in the last one. Even better, if I forget to jog and forget the plot, there’s no pressure in just replaying another episode. It is absolutely FANTASTIC to jog at night (in a safe area) with Goth/Dark Wave/Doom Metal/Industrial music to really immerse myself in the apocalyptic atmosphere, so I recommend that too. 10/10 idea, 10/10 app ### 5/5 — 13 Years Later, Still Awesome! *2026-05-29, version 12.4.4* Downloaded this when I was in the eighth grade to help motivate my exercise; stopped when I moved and just didn’t pick it back up as life got in the way. Now I’m back during my PhD to help make my walks fun again, and boy howdy this app/storyline/project is still fricken awesome. Glad to hear back! I love that I can listen to music, play one of my other walking games, and listen to the broadcasts at the same time. But for the last few months I have unable to get the app to work. As soon as I start, the map starts freaking out and the whole app locks up. Seems like an iOS 26 issue Please fix 🙏 ### 1/5 — Glitchy af *2026-03-31, version 12.3.3* Paying for the full subscription is well worth it. I’ve been using this app for my physiotherapy, it’s fantastic because I can program the interval training so it means I don’t have to constantly look at my watch or count my runs, it does it all for you. The story missions are great fun as well as are all the other ways to use the app. It’s fairly easy to navigate and program, I’m pretty lazy (and old) when it comes to figuring out that like that and I found it easy to use. The voice acting is what it is, but the ‘quality’ of the acting lends to it, sort of like a silly cult movie. Building the base is the intrinsic reward you get and the regular updates and emails telling you how far you’ve come are inspiring. The best app I’ve ever paid for. Do it. Get out there. ### 1/5 — Greedy *2026-03-27, version 12.3.3* I first got this app over 10 years ago and it was a pay app. I got season 1 and I think season 2 for free, it just came with the app. After season 2, to celebrate completing the second season I treated myself to a Runner 5 t-shirt. I really loved the content and the motivation so when the update for season 3 came out, it said you had to pay for it. I loved the content and I think it was $.99 so I totally got it. There were some issues with the app working correctly so I switched to a different run tracker. Fast forward over 10 years and I remembered Zombies Run and how fun it was. I redownloaded it, restored my purchases and was excited to see all of the new content. I was ready to purchase JUST THE NEXT SEASON when I see they only have one of those subscription pay models and my heart sank. So I decided, I still have my first 3 season that will keep me busy for quite some time so I’ll just do those missions. In the middle of mission 1 a freaking AD starts playing?!!!! How disappointing. I thought this was a really cool “indie” kind of thing I was supporting and to see all I did was help support the suckling at the teet of greed! Disappointed. When you pay for a subscription, you expect this app to give you motivation to move a little faster, but all the Ashley does is leave you wondering why you are paying for something that is useless pretty much like the customer service. Like many other reviewers, I spent YEARS unlocking these episodes. The company’s solution? Just spend years doing it all over again, too bad. Absolutely disgraceful. Please fix 🙏 ### 1/5 — Terrible company *2026-02-17, version 12.3.3* I can’t believe they abruptly removed all my unlocked access to my runs after being a loyal user for over a decade. ### 1/5 — Steer clear *2026-02-15* I used to love this app. iPhone users lost all account progress permanently lost due to them forcing an app update. Contacting support, they refuse to do anything even though they have the power to restore progress. They say they don’t, but other users online have been able to argue for partial restorations of certain seasons, showing they do have this ability. The update had no warning, no prompt to take steps to sync account unlock progress (there’s not even an option to, so nothing users can do). Years of progress gone, with a big middle finger to everyone.
