# Photofect vs Selective Color Photo Effect

The clearest difference is ads: Photofect at none against Selective Color Photo Effect's shown. Photofect also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 5 months). Selective Color Photo Effect's advantage is ratings volume (699 vs 5). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Photofect sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Selective Color Photo Effect sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Photofect holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Selective Color Photo Effect has 699 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 81% of Photofect's written reviews are positive against 85% of Selective Color Photo Effect's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Photofect ships an update every 2 months, Selective Color Photo Effect every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
