# TheaterEars vs Active Voice

TheaterEars and Active Voice both sit at 4.9 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Active Voice's written reviews are positive against 61% of TheaterEars's. Active Voice also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 6) and ads (none vs shown). TheaterEars's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (58K vs 2). On price, rating, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. TheaterEars sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Active Voice asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for TheaterEars against 5.0 for Active Voice. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TheaterEars has 58K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 61% of TheaterEars's written reviews are positive against 100% of Active Voice's.
