# SHIFT Deploy vs Open English

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: SHIFT Deploy at none against Open English's 2. SHIFT Deploy also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7). Open English's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (10K vs 2). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Open English sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $999.99 per year. SHIFT Deploy asks for nothing beyond the download.

SHIFT Deploy holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Open English has 10K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

SHIFT Deploy ships an update every 2 months, Open English weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
