# Shut Up vs Mastodon

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Mastodon at 13K against Shut Up's 49. Mastodon also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 6 months) and rating (4.5 vs 4.2). Shut Up's advantage is device support (4 vs 2) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 18.6). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Mastodon holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mastodon has 13K ratings behind it against 49, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 56% of Shut Up's written reviews are positive against 48% of Mastodon's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Shut Up ships an update every 6 months, Mastodon monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
