# Hilights vs Steps

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Hilights at none against Steps's 1. Hilights also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and iOS requirement (7.0 vs 16). Steps's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (13 vs 1). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Steps sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $0.59 per month. Hilights asks for nothing beyond the download.

Hilights holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Steps has 13 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

Hilights ships an update every 3 months, Steps every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
