# CampusShield vs Avista

The clearest difference is rating: Avista at 4.8 against CampusShield's 4.3. Avista also leads on ratings volume (3.5K vs 90). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Avista holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Avista has 3.5K ratings behind it against 90, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 55% of CampusShield's written reviews are positive against 48% of Avista's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

CampusShield ships an update every 2 months, Avista every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
