# Lighting Calculations vs ExCovery

Lighting Calculations and ExCovery both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of ExCovery's written reviews are positive against 60% of Lighting Calculations's. ExCovery also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 3) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). Lighting Calculations's advantage is update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 13 months). On price, rating, ratings volume and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Lighting Calculations sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 3 months. ExCovery asks for nothing beyond the download.

Lighting Calculations holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.7. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 6 and 3 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Lighting Calculations's written reviews are positive against 100% of ExCovery's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Lighting Calculations ships an update every 5 weeks, ExCovery every 13 months. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
