# hocus. vs btw

The clearest difference is monetization model: btw at free against hocus.'s paid. btw also leads on rating (4.6 vs 4.3) and ratings volume (900 vs 234). hocus.'s advantage is chart position (#61 vs unranked) and update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

hocus. costs $1.99 and btw $1.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

btw holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 234 and 900 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 87% of hocus.'s written reviews are positive against 86% of btw's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

hocus. ships an update every 5 weeks, btw every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
