# Pigments Studio vs Paint Codex

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Paint Codex at 100% against Pigments Studio's 38%. Paint Codex also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.3) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 9 months). Pigments Studio's advantage is ratings volume (78 vs 8) and device support (3 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Pigments Studio sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Paint Codex sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Paint Codex holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Pigments Studio has 78 ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 38% of Pigments Studio's written reviews are positive against 100% of Paint Codex's.

Pigments Studio ships an update every 9 months, Paint Codex fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
