Sketch an idea in 3D, shape it with precise CAD tools, and see a photorealistic render update beside it as you work. uMake is the 3D design app for architects, interior designers and product designers, on iPad, iPhone and Mac. NEW IN UMAKE 10 • AI Design Partner: describe a vase, a mug or a room with furniture, or give it a reference image, and it builds an editable 3D model on your canvas. Keep refining in plain words. • Floor plans: give the Design Partner a plan image, and it builds it in 3D, up to three stories with stairs. • Live AI Preview: a photorealistic render sits beside your model and updates after each change. Switch its look, place your model in a photo, or render four views at once. • Scene Studio uses AI to turn a picture into a short film, one change at a time. Move the camera, set the time of day or recolor the sofa, and each change becomes a short clip. • Flows: connect AI cards such as Sketch to render to a picture. Change the picture, and one tap updates every result. SKETCH AND MODEL IN 3D • Three ways to draw: Precision for exact lines and arcs, Pen for one smooth curve, Freestyle for loose strokes in 3D space. • Draw on a sketch plane or right on a model’s surface. • Lift curves into NURBS surfaces and reshape them by their control points. • Extrude, Push & Pull, Revolve, Loft, Extrude Along Path, Mirror, Array, Offset, Fillet & Chamfer. • Combine: union, subtract or intersect solids, with a 3D preview before you apply. • Project Shape wraps a logo, grille or pattern onto a curved surface. • Component: change one copy, and every linked copy follows. • Mesh Editing: fix imported or AI-made meshes by face, edge or vertex. • Dimensions in real units: mm, cm, m, inches and feet. • Apple Pencil Mode on iPad: Apple Pencil draws while one finger orbits the view. SPACES: ONE BOARD FOR THE WHOLE PROJECT • An infinite board for sketches, notes, photos, videos and live 3D designs. • Layers and layer groups, with an underlay for tracing a plan or a photo. • AI tools work on what you select: Compose a Scene, Variations, Apply Style, Save as Style, Presentation Set, and Split into Layers with Make Whole. • Turn a photo into a 3D model. • Generate images, color palettes, textures and short videos from a description. RENDER, PRESENT AND SHARE • Render with soft shadows, sun studies by time of day and season, and styles like Architectural Clay, Technical Ink and Blueprint. • PBR materials with roughness, metallic and emissive controls. • View in AR places your design on a real table or wall, on iPhone and iPad. • Present with Slides and Full Screen, and write notes over a slide with Markup Mode. WORKS WITH YOUR FILES • Import OBJ, STL, STEP, IGES, USDZ, GLB, DAE, SketchUp (SKP) and SVG. • With a plan, export STEP and IGES for CAD, STL and OBJ for 3D printing, USDZ for AR, and Hi-Res PNG. • Sketching and modeling work offline. A free account backs up and syncs your designs. MADE FOR HOW YOU WORK • One app for iPad, iPhone and Mac with Apple silicon. • Supports iPhone Duo: open the phone, and you get the iPad workspace. • 14 languages. • 2015 iPad Pro App of the Year, Best of App Store 2015, Editors’ Choice. PLANS Basic, Pro and Studio include the full 3D editor, every export format, HQ renders and the full library; they differ in the monthly AI allowance. Students get the Education plan free for 12 months with a class or school link or a personal code. SUBSCRIPTIONS • Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. • A subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. • Manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account settings. • If an offer includes a free trial, any unused portion ends when you buy a subscription. Verdict

The call

uMake and Polymagical both sit at 4.2 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Polymagical's written reviews are positive against 26% of uMake's. Polymagical also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 17.6). uMake's advantage is ratings volume (4K vs 5). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.2 for uMake against 4.2 for Polymagical. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: uMake has 4K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 26% of uMake's written reviews are positive against 100% of Polymagical's.
