# Kitap vs FBReader

The clearest difference is rating: FBReader at 3.7 against Kitap's 3.4. FBReader also leads on ratings volume (129 vs 7) and review sentiment (52% vs 42%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Kitap sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and FBReader sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

FBReader holds the better App Store score, 3.7 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: FBReader has 129 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 42% of Kitap's written reviews are positive against 52% of FBReader's.

Kitap ships an update every 2 months, FBReader monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
