# eMusic vs Music Player

eMusic and Music Player both sit at 4.2 stars, but that hides the real split: 67% of Music Player's written reviews are positive against 35% of eMusic's. Music Player also leads on monetization model (ad-supported vs freemium). eMusic's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (175 vs 9). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.2 for eMusic against 4.1 for Music Player. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: eMusic has 175 ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 35% of eMusic's written reviews are positive against 67% of Music Player's.

eMusic ships an update every 3 weeks, Music Player every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
