# Mini Chess vs Chess Plus

The clearest difference is update cadence: Chess Plus at every 9 days against Mini Chess's every 3 weeks. Mini Chess's advantage is ratings volume (345 vs 27) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). On price, rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Mini Chess sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Chess Plus sells 14 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Mini Chess against 4.6 for Chess Plus. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mini Chess has 345 ratings behind it against 27, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 83% of Mini Chess's written reviews are positive against 75% of Chess Plus's.

Mini Chess ships an update every 3 weeks, Chess Plus every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
