# Mini Chess vs Classic Chess

The clearest difference is rating: Mini Chess at 4.6 against Classic Chess's 4.2. Mini Chess also leads on ratings volume (345 vs 6) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.6). Classic Chess's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 83%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Mini Chess sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Classic Chess sells 5 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Mini Chess holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mini Chess has 345 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 83% of Mini Chess's written reviews are positive against 100% of Classic Chess's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Mini Chess ships an update every 3 weeks, Classic Chess monthly. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
