# FireBoard® vs Makai

The clearest difference is monetization model: Makai at free against FireBoard®'s paid. Makai also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 72%) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 16.6). FireBoard®'s advantage is ratings volume (6.2K vs 11) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Makai holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: FireBoard® has 6.2K ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 72% of FireBoard®'s written reviews are positive against 100% of Makai's.

FireBoard® ships an update every 3 weeks, Makai every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
