# CMDR vs MapGenie

CMDR and MapGenie both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 79% of CMDR's written reviews are positive against 43% of MapGenie's. CMDR also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 4 weeks vs every 27 months). MapGenie's advantage is ratings volume (2K vs 16). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. CMDR sells 4 one-off in-app purchases and MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for CMDR against 4.6 for MapGenie. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MapGenie has 2K ratings behind it against 16, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 79% of CMDR's written reviews are positive against 43% of MapGenie's.

CMDR ships an update every 4 weeks, MapGenie every 27 months. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
