# freenet Cloud vs Proton Pass

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: freenet Cloud at none against Proton Pass's 5. Proton Pass's advantage is ratings volume (8.6K vs 5) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, rating, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Proton Pass sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $35.90 per year. freenet Cloud asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for freenet Cloud against 4.8 for Proton Pass. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Proton Pass has 8.6K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 52% of freenet Cloud's written reviews are positive against 67% of Proton Pass's.

freenet Cloud ships an update every 2 months, Proton Pass every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 27, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
