# VivaLing vs eChineseLearning

The clearest difference is rating: eChineseLearning at 3.7 against VivaLing's 3.0. eChineseLearning also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 6 weeks) and ratings volume (7 vs 2). VivaLing's advantage is review sentiment (33% vs 25%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

eChineseLearning holds the better App Store score, 3.7 against 3.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 2 and 7 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 33% of VivaLing's written reviews are positive against 25% of eChineseLearning's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

VivaLing ships an update every 6 weeks, eChineseLearning fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on September 29, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
