# Paintwork vs Tiny Paint

The clearest difference is monetization model: Paintwork at free with in-app purchases against Tiny Paint's subscription. Paintwork also leads on update cadence (weekly vs monthly) and ratings volume (17K vs 525). Tiny Paint's advantage is review sentiment (81% vs 65%) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 15.6). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Paintwork sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Tiny Paint sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $14.99 per 6 months. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Paintwork holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Paintwork has 17K ratings behind it against 525, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 65% of Paintwork's written reviews are positive against 81% of Tiny Paint's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Paintwork ships an update weekly, Tiny Paint monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
