# Letterboxd vs Book Lover

The clearest difference is rating: Letterboxd at 4.8 against Book Lover's 4.0. Letterboxd also leads on ratings volume (88K vs 4) and chart position (#19 vs unranked). Book Lover's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 59%) and ads (none vs shown). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Letterboxd sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $18.99 per year and Book Lover sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Letterboxd holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Letterboxd has 88K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 59% of Letterboxd's written reviews are positive against 100% of Book Lover's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Letterboxd ships an update fortnightly, Book Lover every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on November 5, 2026 and November 2, 2026 respectively.
