# Letterboxd vs Hypelist

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Letterboxd at 88K against Hypelist's 437. Letterboxd also leads on chart position (#17 vs unranked) and device support (3 vs 1). Hypelist's advantage is review sentiment (72% vs 59%) and update cadence (weekly vs fortnightly). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Letterboxd sells 11 in-app purchases, starting at $18.99 per year and Hypelist sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Letterboxd against 4.7 for Hypelist. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Letterboxd has 88K ratings behind it against 437, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 59% of Letterboxd's written reviews are positive against 72% of Hypelist's.

Letterboxd ships an update fortnightly, Hypelist weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
