# Offline Map vs Speedometer

The clearest difference is monetization model: Offline Map at freemium against Speedometer's subscription. Offline Map also leads on review sentiment (89% vs 71%) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). Speedometer's advantage is ratings volume (250 vs 44). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Offline Map sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per 7 days and Speedometer sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Offline Map against 4.8 for Speedometer. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Speedometer has 250 ratings behind it against 44, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 89% of Offline Map's written reviews are positive against 71% of Speedometer's.

Offline Map ships an update every 3 weeks, Speedometer every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
