# Improv Tonight vs Empo

The clearest difference is rating: Empo at 4.7 against Improv Tonight's 4.3. Empo also leads on update cadence (every 10 days vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (137 vs 20). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Empo holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Empo has 137 ratings behind it against 20, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 79% of Improv Tonight's written reviews are positive against 71% of Empo's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Improv Tonight ships an update every 2 months, Empo every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
