# REDVPN vs Defender VPN

The clearest difference is rating: Defender VPN at 4.3 against REDVPN's 3.3. Defender VPN also leads on ratings volume (43 vs 10). REDVPN's advantage is update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 18 months) and review sentiment (22% vs 0%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. REDVPN sells 4 one-off in-app purchases and Defender VPN sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Defender VPN holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.3. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 10 and 43 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 22% of REDVPN's written reviews are positive against 0% of Defender VPN's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

REDVPN ships an update every 5 weeks, Defender VPN every 18 months. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
