# Emeritus vs GetSmarter

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: GetSmarter at none against Emeritus's 4. GetSmarter also leads on rating (4.8 vs 4.4) and review sentiment (58% vs 44%). Emeritus's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 6 weeks) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18.0). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Emeritus sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $29.99 per month. GetSmarter asks for nothing beyond the download.

GetSmarter holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: GetSmarter has 1K ratings behind it against 96, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 44% of Emeritus's written reviews are positive against 58% of GetSmarter's.

Emeritus ships an update every 3 weeks, GetSmarter every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
