# The Pattern vs Astra

The clearest difference is rating: Astra at 4.7 against The Pattern's 4.0. Astra also leads on update cadence (every 3 days vs weekly) and iOS requirement (15.1 vs 17.0). The Pattern's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and review sentiment (42% vs 27%). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. The Pattern sells 13 in-app purchases, starting at $14.99 per month and Astra sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Astra holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 16K and 39K respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 42% of The Pattern's written reviews are positive against 27% of Astra's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

The Pattern ships an update weekly, Astra every 3 days. Both last shipped on October 29, 2026.
