# Small Square vs UP 9

The clearest difference is rating: UP 9 at 4.5 against Small Square's 2.9. UP 9 also leads on ratings volume (3K vs 7). Small Square's advantage is review sentiment (89% vs 47%) and in-app purchases (none vs 7). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. UP 9 sells 7 one-off in-app purchases. Small Square asks for nothing beyond the download.

UP 9 holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 2.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: UP 9 has 3K ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 89% of Small Square's written reviews are positive against 47% of UP 9's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Small Square ships an update monthly, UP 9 every 2 months. Both last shipped on November 2, 2026.
