# MetaBrush vs Oilbook

The clearest difference is ads: MetaBrush at none against Oilbook's shown. MetaBrush also leads on ratings volume (22 vs 5). Oilbook's advantage is rating (4.2 vs 3.8) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MetaBrush sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days and Oilbook sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Oilbook holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 3.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 22 and 5 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 65% of MetaBrush's written reviews are positive against 60% of Oilbook's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

MetaBrush ships an update every 2 months, Oilbook every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
