# uTalk vs Ling

The clearest difference is ads: uTalk at none against Ling's shown. Ling's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs monthly) and ratings volume (16K vs 1K). On price, rating, review sentiment and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. uTalk sells 92 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month and Ling sells 20 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Ling holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ling has 16K ratings behind it against 1K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 63% of uTalk's written reviews are positive against 61% of Ling's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

uTalk ships an update monthly, Ling weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 18, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
