# PDF Scanner vs Scanner PDF

The clearest difference is monetization model: PDF Scanner at free with in-app purchases against Scanner PDF's subscription. PDF Scanner also leads on iOS requirement (9.0 vs 12.0). Scanner PDF's advantage is update cadence (every 3 months vs every 25 months) and ratings volume (20K vs 103). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. PDF Scanner sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Scanner PDF sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for PDF Scanner against 4.6 for Scanner PDF. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Scanner PDF has 20K ratings behind it against 103, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 21% of PDF Scanner's written reviews are positive against 32% of Scanner PDF's.

PDF Scanner ships an update every 25 months, Scanner PDF every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
