# Exam Reader vs SmartScan Go

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Exam Reader at 60% against SmartScan Go's 17%. Exam Reader also leads on update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (12 vs 3). SmartScan Go's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 7) and rating (3.7 vs 3.3). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Exam Reader sells 7 one-off in-app purchases. SmartScan Go asks for nothing beyond the download.

SmartScan Go holds the better App Store score, 3.7 against 3.3. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 12 and 3 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Exam Reader's written reviews are positive against 17% of SmartScan Go's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Exam Reader ships an update every 2 weeks, SmartScan Go every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
